Position Title: Education Associate, Social Emotional Behavioral Wellbeing
Reports To: Director, School Support Services
Description of Position: The Education Associate, Social Emotional Behavioral Wellbeing position will provide support for advancing, scaling, and sustaining the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) priorities for cultivating safe and supportive schools. This position oversees our mental health, social emotional learning and trauma informed practice initiatives. This position will also be responsible for working with other DDOE Teams, workgroups and state agencies to set and achieve the vision of the Whole Child, Every Child education for students in Delaware
Major Responsibilities:
       Program Management

• Leads and coordinates the Department's work in the areas of social and emotional learning (SEL), trauma-informed practices efforts including contributing significantly to the state's social, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing initiatives.
• Serves as a liaison to LEA's in providing technical assistance and support for Student Support professionals.
• Provides technical assistance and support for wide range of mental health professionals working in LEA's focused on improving the culture of belonging for students.
• Partner with other workgroups to support technical assistance efforts connected to Delaware mental health legislation.   
• Leads and monitors communications in social emotional learning, trauma-informed practices within Multi-Tiered System(s) of Support (MTSS), including community partnerships (non-profit/private organizations).
• Provides leadership and training to Department staff and LEAs on their work to reduce and eliminate the nonacademic barriers to learning within the context of Multi-Tiered System(s) of Support (MTSS), social emotional learning and trauma-informed practices.
• Designs and implements professional workshops and in-services to support the social and emotional learning resources, trauma framework and incorporates best practices including research on learning theory.
• Provide technical support for funding initiatives that supports social, emotional and behavioral wellbeing for students. 

       Connect and Collaborate with Other State Education Offices, Programs, and Staff

• Liaises with outside providers and researchers on social and emotional learning work in Delaware.
• Collaborates with other teams at the DDOE and LEAs to achieve the goals and objectives for school improvement and school discipline improvement.
• Collaborates with other state agencies and area Institutes of Higher Education to increase pre-service knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, social and emotional learning, and trauma-informed practices.
• Collaborates with out of school time providers to align social and emotional learning and trauma-informed practices programs across agencies. Engages and informs parents and families about social emotional learning and trauma-informed practices.

Essential Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, psychology, or related field required.  Master's degree preferred.
Experience:

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a school setting required.
• Experience with effective education programs and managing vendor/contractor relationships.
• Experience collaborating with community providers.
• Knowledge of change theory, adult learning, and research on Social and Emotional Learning and its relationship to academic achievement.

Skills:

• Skill in analyzing and synthesizing information to integrate Social and Emotional Learning performance standards and Behavioral Support programs within all curricular areas.
• Ability to create and coordinate professional development.
• Must be a self-starter with strong leadership skills.
• Project Management skills.
• Ability to build consensus among diverse groups and establish and maintain productive working relationships with others.
• Knowledge and skills in best practices of professional development with adult learners.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be proficient in performing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Must be skilled in setting priorities, working under pressure, and working in collaboration with others.
• Must be able to proactively solve problems with professionalism.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with staff in a tactful, congenial, and personal manner.
• Must understand the Department's organizational aims and objectives.
• Must be experienced in exercising discretion and confidentiality in all professional duties.

Salary:  
Salary Range: $98,642.80-154,081.16 annually. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's education and experience in accordance with the Department of Education's compensation policy.  The position includes a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the state retirement program, annual, sick, and personal leave, and supplemental benefits options. Direct deposit of payroll checks is a condition of state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
