What is an edtech sales job?

An Edtech Sales job involves selling educational technology products or services to schools, universities, businesses, or individual educators. Sales professionals in this field identify potential clients, demonstrate product value, and negotiate contracts to meet customer needs. They often work closely with marketing and customer success teams to drive adoption and ensure customer satisfaction. Strong communication, product knowledge, and relationship-building skills are essential for success in this role.

What are the main challenges someone in edtech sales might face, and how can they be overcome?

One common challenge in Edtech Sales is navigating the often lengthy and complex decision-making processes within educational institutions, which can involve multiple stakeholders and budget cycles. Additionally, adapting sales approaches to a diverse range of clients—from K–12 schools to higher education and corporate learning environments—requires flexibility and deep product understanding. To overcome these challenges, successful Edtech sales professionals focus on building strong, consultative relationships, staying up-to-date on industry trends, and demonstrating measurable outcomes for their solutions. Proactively addressing client concerns and providing tailored presentations can also help move sales forward.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in edtech sales, and why are they important?

To thrive in Edtech Sales, you need strong sales acumen, a good understanding of educational products and solutions, and experience in business development—often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with CRM software (such as Salesforce), virtual meeting platforms, and basic data analysis tools is typically required. Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills help professionals connect with educators and decision-makers. These abilities are crucial to effectively articulating value propositions, building trust, and closing deals in the competitive education technology landscape.

Job description

Description:

CENTEGIX® is the industry leader in wearable safety technology for healthcare, education, government, and commercial workplaces with over 800,000 badges in use. The cloud-based CENTEGIX Safety Platform® initiates the fastest response time for emergencies, from the everyday to the extreme. Leaders in over 18,000 locations nationwide trust CENTEGIX's innovative safety solutions to empower and protect people (every day).

Purpose

Every second matters when someone needs help, and the technology that saves those seconds does not sell itself from behind a screen. It gets sold in school district offices, at state education conferences, and across the table from the superintendents and safety leaders who decide how their people are protected. That is where you come in.

CENTEGIX is looking for a driven, field-first Sr Sales Executive to own Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio. This is a territory with real whitespace and real momentum, and you will be the face of CENTEGIX in it. You will spend your time where the deals actually happen: in front of customers, at industry events, and inside the education communities of your states.

You will build your pipeline through relationships, presence, and smart use of every channel available to you, from the conference floor to your professional network to the social platforms where district leaders pay attention. Then you will carry those opportunities all the way from first conversation to closed deal.

If you want a desk job, this is not it. If you want to build a territory, represent a mission that matters, and get paid on uncapped commission for doing it, keep reading.

Position Responsibilities

  • Own the Central Region territory (VA, WV, OH, identifying and engaging prospective customers across K12 schools and districts.
  • Efficiently qualify and convert inbound leads into active pipeline opportunities, driving the sales process from lead generation through deal closure while maintaining accurate Salesforce records and a high level of responsiveness.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline through proactive prospecting, cold outreach, networking, referrals, and consistent presence at industry-related events
  • Build lasting relationships with superintendents, school safety leaders, and key stakeholders that turn into long-term business opportunities
  • Represent CENTEGIX at conferences, trade shows, and state and regional education events across your territory, generating leads and building brand visibility as the local face of the company
  • Articulate CENTEGIX's product benefits and value proposition effectively to key decision-makers
  • Leverage social media and digital networking platforms professionally to build your presence in the education safety community, engage decision-makers, share CENTEGIX's story, and generate pipeline
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including regional sales teams and technical support, to meet customer needs and ensure successful deal execution
  • Work closely with other sales team members and strategic partners in your territory to ensure full coverage of leads and opportunities and support the achievement of the team quota
  • Share market insights and trends from the field with the broader sales team to optimize business strategies
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of quota-carrying EdTech sales experience with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets
  • Experience selling to K12 districts, public sector is required, including navigating longer sales cycles with committee-based decisions
  • Proven full-cycle sales skills, from cold prospecting and lead generation through presentation, negotiation, and close
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence decision-makers from school boards to superintendents
  • Reside within the Central Region territory (VA, WV or OH, ideally near a major airport) with willingness to travel approximately 30-40% for in-person meetings, conferences, and trade shows
  • Self-motivated and disciplined working from a remote home office, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a large geographic territory independently
  • Experience using CRM software (Salesforce preferred) to manage pipeline, forecast accurately, and maintain clean records

What’s in it for you?

  • Remote first work environment; we offer workplace flexibility
  • Uncapped commission potential
  • Fifteen days of PTO plus twelve company holidays
  • Three days of paid Sick Leave and one floating holiday
  • Monthly device(s) reimbursement
  • Up to $2500/year reimbursement for eligible education expenses
  • We offer a range of Healthcare plans to meet your needs  (medical, dental, vision)
