A well-established weekly newspaper serving a community of 45,000 readers is seeking an Associate Editor to join our small, fast-paced newsroom in Daytona Beach. This is a full-time, in-office position supporting one print publication and its companion website.

The Associate Editor plays a key role in shaping weekly coverage, editing and producing content, and keeping the newsroom running smoothly. This is a hands-on job for someone who loves local journalism, thrives on deadlines, and isnโ€™t afraid to roll up their sleeves.

Responsibilities include:

  • Editing stories for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and AP style
  • Writing news, features, and community stories as needed
  • Assisting with story planning and weekly print production
  • Working with freelancers and staff reporters
  • Helping manage website content and digital publishing schedules
  • Participating in layout, pagination, and headline writing
  • Supporting social media and audience engagement efforts
  • Stepping in wherever needed in a small newsroom environment

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong editing and writing skills
