Job description

DDM Group is seeking an Assistant Entertainment Editor to help drive entertainment coverage for Atlanta Black Star, from breaking celebrity news and cultural moments to original stories that go beyond what everyone else is reporting.

The ideal candidate is a sharp editor and strong reporter with a deep understanding of entertainment, culture and the conversations shaping our audience. This person knows how to spot the story, find the right angle and move quickly to develop it. Just as importantly, they know how to secure interviews, build sources and ask the questions that get beyond rehearsed answers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify, pitch, assign and develop timely entertainment stories, including breaking news, trending conversations, celebrity news and original reporting.
  • Edit and strengthen stories from pitch to publication, sharpening angles, structure, sourcing, ledes and headlines while ensuring copy meets the publication?s editorial standards.
  • Conduct interviews with entertainers, public figures, experts and other relevant sources, asking smart, direct questions that uncover compelling details and move stories beyond surface-level coverage.
  • Proactively secure interviews, statements and sources, building relationships that strengthen coverage and create opportunities for original reporting.
  • Monitor social media, entertainment outlets, press conferences, interviews, podcasts and other sources to identify emerging stories and opportunities before they become saturated.
  • Conduct thorough research and fact-checking to ensure stories are accurate, credible and properly sourced.
  • Craft compelling headlines, ledes and story framing designed to capture attention without sacrificing accuracy or substance.
  • Guide writers through the reporting and editing process, providing clear feedback that strengthens their storytelling and reporting skills.
  • Help manage daily editorial workflow, assignments and deadlines to maintain a consistent pipeline of high-quality content.
  • Collaborate with Editorial, Social and other teams to develop stories and extend strong entertainment coverage across platforms.
  • Step in to report, write, edit or otherwise support coverage as news and priorities demand.
