Job description

Deputy Video-In-Chief

This position involves coordination and supervision of the work of staff and freelance video correspondents in the US, Canada and the Caribbean.

You will support the Video Editor-in-Chief in all aspects of coverage including breaking news, sports, features and live broadcasts.

You will be managing, alongside the Video Editor-in-Chief, a team of 19 people: the Head of Video Output, seven producers (two of whom are based in Los Angeles), seven VJs, two journalists in the MCR, and two MCOs.

Experience and the ability to plan coverage of major calendar events are critical, as is the ability to coordinate teams of video journalists in response to large breaking news stories.

Calmness under pressure, a strong understanding of broadcast and digital clients' needs, and a solid pertinent knowledge of US political and societal issues are all must-haves.

During the Washington hub opening hours, you will make sure that global top news stories are being covered, handled and transmitted rapidly in video, as part of the global shift organization.

You will ensure the credibility and reliability of our coverage and respect for the agency's editorial policy and copyright guidelines.

The deputy video-in-chief reports to the Video Editor-in-Chief for North America and the North America Editor-in-Chief.

In coordination with the head of the video edition hub, you will also supervise the Washington video desk, including:

· training new editors

· monitoring regional video output in English and French, specifically when the head of the video desk is away

· ensure strict adherence to AFP's editorial guidelines and editorial principles.

You will also:

· send video advisories

· keep AFP's internal planning agendas up to date.

· Edit scripts for voiced packages and digital content.

The job requires flexibility, including on weekends and holidays. You will share on-duty responsibilities with the Video Editor-in-Chief for weeknights, holidays and weekends. These duties may also be on-call responsibilities, depending on the workload.

You may be called on to travel on assignment within the region, or training missions, including training photographers and text reporters to improve their production of videos.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all staff across all categories and departments always follow security guidelines and standard operating procedures, both within the bureau and when traveling.

In a rapidly changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage priorities and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.
