Job description

Position Summary
The ED Registered Nurse provides competent, compassionate nursing care in a fast-paced emergency setting. Working closely with an interdisciplinary team, you will manage acute conditions for patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-acuity environment and demonstrates a strong commitment to patient safety and exceptional teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment & Triage:ย Rapidly assess, prioritize, and admit patients in a 29-bed emergency department (including 6 designated fast-track beds).
  • Direct Patient Care:ย Perform rounding checks, administer medications, and oversee overall patient treatment.
  • Emergency Interventions:ย Execute life-saving procedures, closely monitor patient vitals, and respond to rapid changes in patient conditions.
  • Family Communication:ย Clearly and compassionately communicate updates, diagnoses, and care plans with family members.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration:ย Work seamlessly with doctors, technicians, and other hospital staff to ensure safe, continuous, and high-quality care.
  • Documentation:ย Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant patient records in accordance with Magnet and hospital standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education:ย RB Degree (RN Diploma, ADN, BSN, or MSN).
  • License:ย Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse License to practice in the State of Virginia.
  • Experience:ย Previous ED experience strongly preferred; however, experienced acute care/floor RNs will be considered.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
