Job description

Description Job Summary The Emergency Dept Technician works under the supervision of the Nurse Director and/or Manager and is responsible for the care of patients and assists with patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse. Accountable for patient care, which incorporates clinical and clerical tasks, planning and implementation, evaluation and intervention skills. Also involves the maintenance, stocking of the rooms during shift and upkeep of the department and equipment and supplies. Job Specific Duties * Provides care to patients under the direction of the RN including: taking vitals, collecting & delivering specimens to the laboratory, performing EKG, and assisting in medical procedure. * Provides care to patients under the direction of the RN including: assisting with ventilation, performing CPR, communicating with arriving cases, setting up all monitors, & checklist completion. * Conducts walking rounds with RN or LPN to ensure proper bedside handoff and continuity of patient care. * Prepares for all specimen handling within hospital guidelines and policy. Ensures proper handoff per emergency guidelines and delivery of specimens. * Checks and assembles supplies, linens and equipment for assigned areas, to promote an efficient and safe environment of care. * Collaboratively works with RN and LPN to prioritize patient care needs throughout the entire shift. F: Daily/ T: 12 hours R: Shared * Prepares discharge paperwork and includes school notes to patients and families. * Provides point of care testing with documentation of results in EMR. * Actively supports patients by transporting to areas within the hospital for procedures and admissions. * Promotes safety by actively participating in the "Time Out" process with the medical and clinical staff. * Accurately performs & records all POC quality controls; documents department refrigerator temperature controls that align to Quality control standards per departmental protocol. * Provides continuous supervision, observation of behavioral health patients, and adheres to non-violent crisis intervention strategies (CPI). Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements * American Heart Association BLS required within 90 days of hire - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment * American Heart Association PALS required within 2 years of hire - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment * At least 6 months experience in EMT, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, EKG or other related healthcare fields Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * EMT license preferred. * ACLS within 1 year of hire and in good standing throughout employment preferred * Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with clients and co-workers * Able to complete basic competency list and specialized skills list for position * Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information * Ability to problem solve to adapt standard nursing procedures to the individual client need * Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions * Ability to be flexible and handle reprioritization of patient needs frequently throughout the day Job: Nursing- Support (Clinical) Department: FTL PEDS ED-2200-670601 Job Status: Professional
