About University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB

University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the university's educational mission by providing quality services that complement the instructional program. The University depends upon UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds. We're responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.
Position Summary
Temporary, Staff, Part Time, Non-Exempt, Non-Benefited position through 9/30/2026 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funds, availability of work and satisfactory job performance).
Salary: $30.00-$40.00 per hour.
Location: Entrepreneurial Resource Center Palm Desert, 37023 Cook St. Suite 102, Palm Desert, CA 92211
Work Schedule
19 hours per week. Schedule to be arranged, but typically, Monday-Friday within the hours of 8:00AM-5:00PM. Though some nights, weekend work may be required.
First Review Deadline
This position will remain open until filled.
Typical Activities
Under minimal supervision of the Project Director, the Business Counselor will work independently to:
  • Provide one-on-one consulting and training to pre-venture, start-up, and small to medium-sized businesses to support growth and sustainability.
  • Conduct detailed business evaluations and deliver actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Teach workshops based on the counselor's area of expertise to enhance client knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain accurate client records, document consulting sessions, and report outcomes in compliance.
  • Generate new business leads through outreach and partnerships with local cities, chambers of commerce, business associations, and community organizations.
  • Stay current on business trends, techniques, and best practices to provide informed guidance to clients.
  • Collaborate with peers and the business community to share expertise and enhance service offerings.
  • Prepare timely reports on client milestones, success stories, and overall impact of consulting services.
  • Travel as required to perform cross county-wide job functions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Economics, Entrepreneurship, or a closely related field; or Equivalent combination of relevant professional experience demonstrating the required knowledge and skills.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience with small to medium-sized businesses on business expansion, growth strategies, and sustainability.
    • Experience in business planning and operations to support business development.
    • Demonstrated success in delivering consulting, training, or workshops to help businesses achieve measurable growth.
    • Track record of building client relationships and collaborating with community partners to drive business opportunities.
    • Experience documenting client outcomes and reporting milestones in compliance with program standards.
    • Experience generating leads and developing partnerships to support business development initiatives.
  • Other:
    • Knowledge of business planning, start-up management, and strategies for growth.
    • Skilled in consulting, training, and providing actionable business recommendations.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to analyze business challenges, manage multiple clients, and maintain accurate records.
    • Committed to supporting client success and regional economic development.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
