Position Summary

As a Project Manager within our Economic Development team at Oncor, you’re responsible for supporting the Economic Development Manager by managing assigned economic development projects and activities. The position will, as directed, assist as a liaison between the Company and state, regional and local economic development organizations to encourage community development indicative to attracting new industry and enhanced utilization of Oncor infrastructure.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for directing specific economic development projects of all sizes and scopes that enable to growth of the Oncor system through the expansion and recruitment of business to the Company’s service area to enhance and maximize the effective utilization of existing facilities as well as enable growth in targeted areas. The position acts as a key liaison of the Company with all state, regional and local economic development organizations to promote a positive business environment and community development conducive to attracting new industry. The role also leads the development and implementation of innovative economic development initiatives to support community economic development in Oncor’s service area.

Key Responsibilities

Project Manager:

  • Serves as the Company’s source for the recruitment of business and industry. Support the formulation of organizational strategies and economic development processes related to business recruitment.
  • Collaborates with internal organizations to respond promptly and effectively to requests for information from local/state economic development organizations business prospects and/or consultants.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders and a working knowledge of Oncor’s business and business processes to facilitate a seamless process for each prospect and a smooth hand-off for project planning and construction to the appropriate Oncor organization
  • Develop prospect research, competitive intelligence and resource management for the Department. Initiate and maintain contacts with business leads, prospects and site location consultants through customized outreach and personal visits for recruitment of targeted businesses that are supportive of both the Company’s business objectives and community goals indicative of current economic trends.
  • Works closely with Oncor Area Managers to better understand and document the economic development needs and priorities of each community to target industry prospects best suited to the community and aligned with Oncor’s business priorities
  • Actively participates in external business activities including maintaining business contacts, attending targeted seminars, conferences and maintaining current knowledge of general economic development trends, as well as knowledge of business activities in the Company’s service area.
  • Maintain active participation and representation in trade and professional organizations relating to state, regional and local economic development programs in the Company’s service area
  • Provide guidance and serve as a resource to community economic development organizations relating to electric utility requirements supporting effective marketing programs. Internally coordinate the development, production and implementation of company economic development marketing materials and programs.
  • Identifies and recommends trade shows and other significant venues best suited to the Company’s targeted markets for promotion of the service area; coordinate trade show participation and all necessary activities related to the sponsorship/co-sponsorship of trade show booths
  • Effectively support in managing an individual budget for specific regional marketing activities including both individual Company initiatives and joint efforts with community and other regional ED organizations. Also manage individual budget for all personal expenditures associated with economic development marketing, prospect activities and training requirements
  • Maintain a close business relationship with Oncor Area Managers and community economic development organizations in Oncor’s service area to effectively plan, coordinate and facilitate customized community development programs; including: community meetings and seminars that increase Oncor’s visibility, knowledge of current and future economic development priorities and trends to enhance the economic development expertise in smaller communities.
  • Assist in generating Economic Development Department monthly, semi-annual and annual reports, and provide data base management for the Department.
  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

In addition to the above, the role and responsibilities for the Senior Project Manager include:

  • Serves as a source for the recruitment of business and industry. Striking a healthy balance of a competitive mindset and collaboration, utilizes experience, insight and knowledge to provide leadership and direction in the formulation of organizational strategies and economic development processes related to business recruitment
  • Oversee the gathering and assembling of all requested project information to ensure a comprehensive deliverable product.
  • Utilizes knowledge and experience to counsel business clients through the site/building search process, by thoroughly assessing all client needs relative to utility requirements, facility needs, state regulations, community offerings, etc. Organizes and directs business prospect site visits to specific communities, ensuring that all requested data is available and appropriate community representatives are available and prepared.
  • Utilize participation in trade and professional organizations to gain a position of influence regarding state, regional and local economic development programs directly impacting the Company’s service area. Represent the Company by serving in a leadership role on State and National economic development committees and organizations at the request of the Manager/Director of Economic Development.
  • Supports growth and development of peers and economic development support staff through mentoring and sharing of knowledge and experience, as well as recruiting them to assist with recruitment and other events. Leverages expertise and experience to develop relationships for generation of business leads.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and specific project leadership to economic support personnel pertaining to marketing programs, industrial project initiatives, community development activities and special projects.
  • Leads the development and design of new and/or customized community development programs and other economic development workshops and seminars including regional economic development workshops in targeted areas including rural and small communities
  • Stays abreast of trends and business drivers impactive future economic development priorities and strategies that impact economic development such as electric vehicles, non-wires alternatives and other new industries with significant electric demand needs
  • Provides key support through the formulation of critical recommendations and the development of position statements, executive summaries, briefing papers, etc. related to economic development, legislative and executive projects as needed.
  • Supports in developing a plan to leverage data and information to ensure Oncor’s senior leadership team is kept abreast of economic development progress and trends, to increase proactive recruitment in competitive areas and visibility of the role of the Economic Development organization.

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
