Job description

Job Title: Sr Mgr, Business & Economic Development
Work Place Flexibility: Hybrid

Job Summary/Purpose
Leads a team responsible for generating new business leads, identifying expansion opportunities with existing customers, and managing a variety of economic development activities to create new jobs and capital investment in the communities Entergy serves. Actively engages with site selectors, company executives, and economic development partners to encourage companies to locate or expand in Louisiana, while also managing competitive commercial and residential development projects. Builds and develops a high-performing business development team, designs marketing and relationship-building strategies, and represents Entergy at external conferences and meetings to drive revenue growth initiatives.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
1. Lead a team in generating new business leads and identifying expansion opportunities with existing customers.
2. Oversee a variety of economic development activities including project management, product development, and marketing to create new jobs and capital investment in Entergy's service communities.
3. Increased engagement with existing companies on expansions, particularly as it pertains to coordination with Louisiana Economic Development in partnership with Industrial Account Executives for investment to increase load.
4. Manage prospective activity including RFI/RFP response, project management, site visits, and cost estimates for electrical facilities and rates.
5. Actively engage with site selectors, company executives, business owners, brokers, and public officials to encourage companies to locate or expand in Louisiana. Provide insights on Entergy Louisiana's capabilities to aid in co-location opportunities and strategies for recruitment, potential incentives, and partnerships to reduce barriers for growth.
6. Assist the VP of Business & Economic Development and Director of Industrial Accounts in the development of the annual AGM incentive targets and annual sales forecast.
7. Provide oversight and participate in monthly discussions with ICO on growth opportunities within SalesForce related to economic development projects in the pipeline; hold economic development project managers responsible for keeping the CRM up to date.
8. Establish, own, and improve external relationships with economic development organizations, real estate developers, engineering firms, local government officials, board seats, executive councils, ports, rail providers, and other utility providers.
9. Identify and compile a combined list of sites and buildings using specific factors to determine suitability for site certification.
10. Increased engagement with existing companies on expansions, particularly as it pertains to coordination with Louisiana Economic Development; currently IAE's exposure to LED on expansions is very rare, which could limit the assistance our customers could receive when adding investment / load
11. Design, organize, market, and conduct tours, seminars, workshops, meetings, banquets, conferences, etc. to promote Entergy's economic and community development activities.
12. Build and develop a high-performing business development team within a defined territory to drive revenue growth initiatives.
13. Develop the annual marketing and relationship-building strategies, coordinate team activities, and set goals for the team and individual employees.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or equivalent work experience is required. MBA and/or post graduate work is a plus.

Minimum experience required of the position
  • 10+ years of experience in economic development or business development. Economic development recruiting with utility experience is a plus.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience required or served as a recognized lead role within a team.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
  • Ability to effectively manage a group of 7 direct reports located in various office locations; be a team leader on projects for the vice president.
  • Ability to develop annual business plans, handle heavy workload, multiple tasks, and solve practical problems.
  • Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state (up to 30% overnight travel flexibility required); ability to consistently participate in evening and weekend networking/relationship building events.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and has a comprehensive understanding of different systems, theories, and practices.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints and applies broad industry and commercial awareness to drive financial and operational performance across sub-functions.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on business development topics to executive management, public groups, and new or existing customers.
  • Demonstrates expert people and/or process management skills as well as customer (external and internal) relationship skills. Demonstrates detailed expertise in very complex functional/ technical area or broad breadth of knowledge in multiple areas; understands the strategic impact of the function across sites.
