Job description

Description Fairfax City Economic Development (FCED) is the lead agency for economic development programming within Fairfax City. The Department serves to promote, identify, and assist businesses with location, expansion, and capacity-building services within the City while creating systems and programs that encourage commercial and retail development. FCED also serves as the primary point of contact with the Fairfax City Economic Development Authority, an independent but related agency of the City of Fairfax.

The FCED Marketing Associate's primary responsibilities will involve working under the direction of the Public Relations and Marketing Manager or their designee to manage the marketing of initiatives, programs, and news that support the business community and economic growth within Fairfax City. This is a temporary six-month temporary position with the potential for extension. Examples Of Duties Assist in managing social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, and LinkedIn).

This includes maintenance of the social media calendar and community management across all platforms. Create brand-aligned, high-quality, and engaging content relevant to the work of FCED, such as graphic design, videography, photography, and editing for both social media, the monthly e-newsletter, and other marketing collateral needs. Measure the impact of posts, videos, Stories, and campaigns by reviewing social analytics.

Learn and develop ways to adapt strategies to increase impact and growth. Build social relationships with our partners, city businesses, and neighboring jurisdictions. Stay up to date on social media trends.

Attend all ribbon-cutting ceremonies and meetings as necessary. Assist with maintenance of the FCED website(gofairfaxcity.com). Other duties as assigned by FCED staff

Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience developing marketing campaigns and managing social media platforms.

Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related arts field preferred. Creative eye with graphic design experience or background required. Experience creating and editing photo and video content required.

Experience updating websites preferred. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.

Strong attention to detail expected. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, website maintenance, and familiarity with Canva, and CRM platforms. Supplemental Information $25-28/hr, based on experience, non-benefitted.

Approximately 25 hours per week (part-time); subject to change. Primary Location: Fairfax City Economic Development, 10300 Eaton Place, Ste 235, Fairfax, VA 22030. All hours must be in-office; subject to change based on direction from the state and/or City government.
