Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Computer Systems Technology (CST) in the College of Science and Technology at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Information Technology beginning in August 2026. The appointment is expected at the Assistant Professor level; however, a higher rank may be considered for exceptionally well-qualified candidates. CST seeks applicants with the potential to develop an innovative and externally funded research program in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, quantum computing, software systems design, cybersecurity, and cloud technologies
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and student mentorship. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Systems Technology; developing curriculum and new courses; conducting and supervising research activities; and providing service to the Department, College, University, and broader community.
The ideal candidate will establish and sustain a productive, externally funded research program in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, quantum computing, software systems design, cybersecurity, and cloud technologies. Expectations include publishing in peer-reviewed venues, supervising Ph.D. and M.S. research, and mentoring undergraduate students. Candidates whose teaching, research, and service contributions support the mission of the CST Department and align with the strategic goals of the College of Science and Technology and the University are especially desirable. Collaboration with faculty across science, mathematics, and technology disciplines is strongly encouraged.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina A&T is a public land-grant, high-research activity university that enrolls over 15,275 students. The University is committed to dedicated teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service.
The College of Science and Technology (COST) enrolls 2,514 students. CoST integrates science, mathematics, and technology to advance knowledge and prepare the next generation of science and technology leaders. The College embraces the mission of the University as a land-grant doctoral research institution with a distinction in STEM by expanding new frontiers in science, creating novel technologies, developing innovative approaches to STEM teaching and learning, and formulating scientific and technological solutions that lead to transformative social and economic development. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Applied Science Technology PhD Program. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.
The Computer Systems Technology (CST) Department at North Carolina A&T State University has 10 full-time faculty members and offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. The department has a current enrollment of 477 undergraduate students, 77 master's students, and 12 doctoral students. Faculty conduct research in cyber-physical systems, system security, machine learning in edge, bioelectric heart and brain monitoring, autonomous vehicle control, knowledge and discovery in big data, and wireless communications. The department has attracted funding from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Department of Education, as well as various industries to support research and education. Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. or terminal degree in information technology, computer science, computer information systems, computer engineering, or a closely related field by the anticipated date of appointment.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
A research track-record in Software Systems Design, Software Engineering, and Enterprise Network Services/Management, Cybersecurity, Cloud Security, Cloud Technologies, Embedded Systems, Hardware Security IoT, Machine Learning, Data and Text Mining, and related areas. Experience as a postdoctoral research fellow and familiarity with ABET accreditation is also preferred.
Required License or Certification Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)
