Job description

General Description:


The Student Support Specialist will provide individual support and case management services to students attending CALV’s vocational training classes. This individual will work to identify and resolve issues which can act as a barrier to both training and successful employment.

The right candidate will have experience in the education or workforce development space and must have a passion for advocacy and providing individualized support services to students in need.


Essential Functions:

  • Conduct initial intake assessments to determine eligibility for training classes and tuition assistance programs.
  • Clarify all rules & regulations to students, advising them of their responsibilities and obligations under program participation.
  • Work with students throughout the duration of their training program to address any behavioral concerns and potential barriers to successful employment.
  • Provide referrals to outside support services/agencies to help students deal with economic, emotional, or physical challenges.
  • Assist school personnel with the creation and implementation of individualized performance plans as needed.
  • Monitor student attendance to ensure success in training programs.
  • Ensures comprehensive assessments and case notes are completed within required time frames.
  • Collaborate with the Student Support Manager, Student Services team, and faculty on a regular basis to ensure student success.
  • Contribute to outreach and recruitment efforts to ensure access to tuition-assisted training opportunities.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.


Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of an associate’s degree (required). Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field (preferred). Experience working in a school setting, workforce development space or case management is required.
