Job Summary

The E-Commerce Assistant Manager supervises, manages, and coordinates production and online sales activities for an internet retail store selling donated and new goods. This role supports the E-Commerce Store Manager in all aspects of eCommerce operations, including staff supervision, inventory management, online merchandising, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities


The following duties are representative of the essential functions of this position. Additional duties may be assigned as operational needs require.

eCommerce Operations

  • Assist the E-Commerce Store Manager in overseeing all aspects of eCommerce operations, including production, inventory management, and online sales.
  • Perform opening and closing duties for the facility, ensuring the security of the building, funds, and computer equipment.
  • Maintain and update online merchandising to optimize sales.
  • Ensure adherence to operational standards, policies, and procedures.

Staff Supervision & Leadership

  • Manage eCommerce staff in the absence of the E-Commerce Store Manager.
  • Supervise subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees; ensure workflow coordination and smooth operations.
  • Train, assign, direct, and evaluate employees; provide feedback, coaching, and discipline as necessary.
  • Address complaints, resolve problems, and maintain accurate documentation for Human Resources and other departments.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative work environment.

Communication & Compliance

  • Provide excellent customer service to employees and customers.
  • Coordinate with peers, subordinates, and other departments to ensure operational consistency.
  • Represent Goodwill professionally at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety rules, and applicable laws.
  • Maintain required operational and HR documentation accurately and timely.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties


This position directly supervises eCommerce Associates and production staff in accordance with HOT Goodwill's policies and applicable laws. In the absence of the E-Commerce Store Manager, the Assistant Manager assumes full supervisory responsibility for the department. Responsibilities include directing and prioritizing work, providing coaching and feedback, administering disciplinary action, and ensuring staff compliance with all safety protocols and company policies.

Education and/or Experience


Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework may substitute for retail experience.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in retail staff supervision.
  • Experience working with a diverse population preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Creative and flexible problem-solving skills desired.

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively with groups.
  • Ability to count money accurately and perform basic calculations (addition, subtraction, percentages, discounts, taxes, commissions).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and adapt to situations with limited standardization.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
