ResponsibilitiesPrimarily works in the cardiac surgery operating room to provide cardiopulmonary bypass support on adult and/or pediatric open-heart cases. Responsible for the operation of extra-corporeal circulation equipment during surgical and medical situations, primarily cardiopulmonary bypass related procedures. Responsible for appropriate selection of equipment and techniques to be used, and to ensure the safe management of physiologic functions. Follows established perfusion protocols relating to patient demographics, surgical procedure, and situation.
Responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of patient care, including personnel and operational activities on a 24-hour unit. Develop and maintain care delivery systems and a team to meet patient care needs. Establish a plan for the delivery of quality care in Perfusion Services, including development of perfusion clinical procedure guidelines, policies and participation in research efforts.
Responsible for competency assessment system for staff and coordination of ongoing training for Perfusionists. Maintain an active role with the capital equipment process. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Contributes to the professional image of Cardiac Surgery by promoting clinical research and teaching, and implementation of new techniques and equipment.
QualificationsBachelor's degree required; supplemented with three (3) years of related perfusion experience. Graduate of a Perfusion Technology Program accredited by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Minimum of two years management experience required. Familiarity with the use of Centrifugal Pumps, Ventricular Assist Devices, and ECMO[KN1] .

Knowledge of Pediatric and Adult clinical perfusion. Knowledge of perfusion practices and equipment. Knowledge of surgical procedures and terminology.
Knowledge of organ procurement systems (e.g. OCS, NRP)
Demonstrated strong leadership ability.
Strong interpersonal/human relations skills. Ability to work under stressful situations.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to be to work unpredictable hours, rotating shifts and On-call schedule
Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required.
