HOURLY RANGE: $28.04 - $37.33
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves assigning, directing and
supervising the activities in one or more
sections of a hospital supply, processing and distribution division. The incumbent is responsible for assigning and reviewing work performed in connection with the sterilization and packaging or reprocessable items, decontamination of supplies and/or the distribution of supplies. Work is performed under the general supervision of the administrative S.P.D. staff. Supervision is
exercised over a large number of labor class employees engaged in supply, processing and
distribution tasks. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Provides immediate supervision for SPD Aides performing light laboring tasks connected with
the SPD Department;
Supervises SPD employees and ensures their compliance with departmental policies and
procedures;
Formulates work schedule for SPD employees in assigned section;
Formulates work schedule for SPD employees in assigned section;
Ensures that reusable supplies and other related items are picked up on a regularly scheduled
basis;
Makes recommendations to staff relative to planning coordination and implementation of
policies and procedures used as a guide in the processing of reusable items, the distribution of supplies or decontamination of supplies;
Conducts performance reviews and progressive discipline of personnel in the assigned unit; Maintains contact with personnel of other hospital departments to solve problems related to
decontamination, distribution or reprocessing;
Establishes and maintains proper level of supplies and equipment.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES SKILLS ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Hourly rate: $26.041 - $37.331
Good knowledge of the supplies used throughout a hospital; good knowledge of the work flow of
a hospital SPD Department including the computer systems pneumatic tube system,
decontamination procedures, sterilization proceduresand procedures used for packaging
reprocesible supplies; working knowledge of hospital organization and functions of the
departments; ability to supervise and conduct employee performance appraisals; ability to get
along well with others; ability to read; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing; initiative; dependability; honesty; physical condition commensurate with the demands
of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; and:
A) Completion of a minimum of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New
York State registered college or university with major emphasis in nursing, management or
related field and one (1) year of supervisory experience in a hospital central sterile supply or
S.P.D. operation; or:
B) Three (3) years of experience in a hospital central sterile supply or S.P.D. operation, at least
one (1) year of which was in a supervisory capacity; or:
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A),
and (B).
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting
full time experience requirements.
