Job description

In a training situation and under close supervision, responsible for 24-hour interpretation of all telemetry patients. Communicates with nursing staff via phone system to accurately manage telemetry needs and rhythm changes. Completes rhythm interpretation, and documentation including posting strips to chart. Works under the direction of the Nurse Manager/RN.

  • High School graduate and/or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to interpret basic ECG rhythms.
  • Ability to maintain and keep accurate records.
  • Ability to input and retrieve data from computer/information systems.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with patients, physicians, supervisors, co-workers, other Medical Center employees, visitors and the general public.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must complete and pass the National Telemetry Association course provided by Hurley Medical Center within 45 days of hire, with a maximum of two (2) attempts allowed..
  1. Maintains accurate and complete patient records: 
    • Documents rhythm strips in accordance with established procedure.
    • Admits/Transfers/Discharges patients from the Telemetry Central Station in accordance with established procedure. 
    • Initiates a telemetry history sheet on all new patients and updates information as necessary.
    • Posts rhythm strips on the medical record according with established procedure. 
  2. Reports relevant observations and changes in patient status to the responsible registered nurse and follows through as directed in the telemetry room. 
  3. Reports relevant changes to physicians as they make rounds and review strips. 
  4. Assumes responsibility for obtaining current accurate information and expand knowledge base through utilization of appropriate resources. 
  5. Communicates with nursing staff to accurately assign telemetry units and beds to the correct patient. 
  6. Completes the report sheets at the end of the shift and reviews them with his/her replacement.
  7. Consults with RN or physician as appropriate regarding ECG strip interpretation
  8. Completes assigned duties during scheduled time period while maintaining a work environment conducive to efficient and safe patient management.
    • Demonstrates competence and knowledge specific to the job responsibilities. 
    • Demonstrates competence in utilization of specific equipment required for the performance of the job. 
    • Responds to real or simulated emergencies and disaster situations according to established protocol.
  9. Maintains privacy and confidentiality in coordination of job responsibilities.
  10. Demonstrates organizational skills and appropriately prioritizes assigned work responsibilities.
  11. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  12. Performs other related duties as required and assigned by supervisor.
  13. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.
