Job Description

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering invitesapplicants for an annual, 10-month position at the Assistant,Associate, or Full Professor rank as part of a multi-positionhiring initiative for Data-Driven AI & Its TransformativeImpact on Special Education. This hiring cluster aims to filltwo positions, one in the School of Data Science and the other inthe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

We seek faculty with expertise in Electrical & ComputerEngineering or a related field with a primary focus onapplications in special education . They are expected todevelop/maintain a vibrant, externally funded interdisciplinaryresearch program in computer vision, computer engineering,signal/image processing, Data Science, and AI/machine learning,including but not limited to:

  • Imaging and signal analysis of behavioral, neurodevelopmental,and neurocognitive deficits and their application in specialeducation Assessment, diagnosis, and interventions for emotionalintelligence and disability
  • Novel theories, state-of-the-art algorithms, and architecturesfor learning and real-time applications in human andmachine-centered interaction and recognition
  • AI-driven adaptive learning systems, immersive visual learningenvironments, and visual perception, and their application inspecial education

Collaboration with other faculty in the Electrical and ComputerEngineering, the Department of Human Movement Studies and SpecialEducation, the School of Data Science, the Institute of DataScience, and the Vision Lab is expected.

Candidates will be considered for appointment at all rankscontingent upon appropriate qualifications.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Advise graduate students
  • Collaborate with other faculty in the cluster to includeSpecial Education, Electrical and Computer Engineering, School ofData Science, Institute of Data Science, and Vision Lab.
  • Provide service to the department, college and theUniversity.

A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or aclosely related field is required.

Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge,skills, and abilities

  1. Candidates for Associate/Full Professor positions must have:
    Academic records that merit a tenured appointment in theDepartment of Electrical and Computer Engineering
  2. A successful record in research and externally fundedgrants.
  3. Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate clearly withinternal and external constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred for AssistantProfessor candidates.
  • A strong publication record and/or experience with grant-fundedresearch.
  • Candidates whose research includes AI/machine learning forspecial education, from emotional intelligence with earlier andbetter understanding of neuro-development and neuro-cognitivedeficits, and disabilities, development of AI-driven adaptivelearning systems, AI-driven therapeutic tools, immersive virtuallearning environment, and predictive analytic for fundamentalresearch and applications in industry and medicine, and otherapplications .
