Job description

SUMMARY:
Substitute Teacher assumes the full role and responsibilities of the Teacher in his/her absence, provides support to regular classroom staff for the establishment, maintenance and management of all classroom activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implements daily lesson plans and daily schedules.
  • Organizes and maintains learning centers within the classroom.
  • Maintains order by using positive approaches to behavior management.
  • Recruits volunteers and solicits in-kind contributions.
  • Attends meetings, trainings and workshop as required.
  • Maintains cleanliness of classrooms and adjoining restrooms.
  • Serves as an advocate for the Head Start Program, families and children.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma and/or GED and
  • At least one year experience working with infants and toddlers in a childcare setting

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
