Job Summary
Provide part time care and education for the children in the Eccles Lab School. Establish and maintain a safe, healthy environment. Plan and direct classroom and playground activities. Prepare weekly lesson plans. Set-up the classroom for the daily activities. Support and promote the children's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. Assess the development of children to establish individual goals for each child and incorporate activities that can support the development of these goals on a daily basis. Observe and record children's developmental behavior. Exhibit understanding of principles of child growth and development. Mentor and work closely with all lab students to model correct teaching techniques. Establish productive relationships with families, including parent teacher chats. Ensure cleanliness and the general upkeep of the classroom and playground.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Exhibit social maturity, physical endurance and emotional stability required to take charge of a group of preschool children.
  • Not have been convicted of any crimes against or related to children.
  • Provide evidence of current, negative TB test, health evaluation, child care food handler's permit, CPR and First Aid certificate, and complete a criminal background screening.
  • Provide two references from persons (other than family members) who can vouch for applicant's integrity, emotional stability and suitability to work with children.
  • Be prepared to receive a minimum of 20 hours of documented in-service training per year.
  • Develop strategies to manage effective program operations.
  • Complete all needed documentation that pertains to classroom needs.
  • Maintain a commitment to professionalism.
  • Attend monthly staff meeting and in-service.
  • Assist in the writing of newsletters.
  • Adhere to Utah's State Licensing and NAEYC Accreditation standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications
  • At least 18 years old.
  • 1 year of Early Childhood coursework equal to 12 credit hours or an earned CDA Required (or be in the process of completing).
  • Have experience in the job assigned and can provide successful work experience documentation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned Associates Degree or higher in Early Childhood Development or related field (ECD, FHS, El Ed, or Sp Ed).
  • 3 years classroom experience.
  • Experience working in a NAEYC Accredited Program.
