Job description

Job Summary


We are seeking an innovative Food Scientist to join our team! The Food Scientist will support the standardization, testing, validation, and commercialization of our meal products, working closely with leadership to take recipes from kitchen scale to commercial production. This is a 6-8 week initial engagement (20–25 hrs/week) with strong potential to extend based on performance and business needs.


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and optimize recipes for commercial food production
  • Conduct product formulation and ingredient analysis
  • Improve product consistency, texture, flavor retention, and reheating performance
  • Develop production specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Recommend packaging solutions for meal products
  • Conduct shelf-life and stability testing
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and New York State food regulations nd other regulatory/legal standards governing food production.
  • Provide guidance on nutritional labeling and ingredient declarations
  • Perform quality assurance activities including quality control testing, root cause analysis of product issues, and validation of manufacturing processes to uphold food safety management systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field.
  • Proven experience in food processing, product development, quality assurance within the food and beverage industry.
  • Strong knowledge of FDA regulations, HACCP principles, GFSI standards, CGMP practices, and food safety management systems such as HARPC.
  • Laboratory experience with microbiology techniques, sensory evaluation methods, formulation chemistry, data collection tools and analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with food industry regulations including nutrition labeling requirements and legal compliance standards for production.
  • Food Handler's and Food Protection Certificate.
