Job description

Responsibilities

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Psych RN - Weekend Nights shift. 

The Psych RN provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as assigned, utilizing the nursing process. Patient population serviced includes both adolescents and adults. Patients are hospitalized for a broad variety of psychiatric disorders, including mood, anxiety, and thought disorders. Patients may also require treatment in specialty programming for trauma, eating disorders, and dual diagnosis (both substance abuse and psychiatric issues). This position actively supports, promotes and works to fulfill the Mission, Vision and Values of Forest View Hospital using our Service Excellence program.

This is a Part time, 24 hours a week position (12 Hour Shifts- 7:00pm-7:30am). 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Promotes a warm and welcoming environment when paired with newly hired RNs, providing training, guidance, and support that is consistent with patient care, safety standards, and policy and procedure.  Responds to questions in a respectful manner.  Reports concerns promptly when identified.
  • Acts as back-up point of contact for direction of other unit staff members when Charge is unavailable
  • Provides leadership to other personnel in crisis behavioral management
  • Utilizing the nursing process, the RN develops an initial nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient.
  • Competent in assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients with co-occurring disorders, eating disorders, and trauma backgrounds.
  • Directs and participates with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.
  • Assists with discharge planning and works with patient at time of discharge.
  • Provides leadership to other personnel in crisis behavioral management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • 6-12 months of previous Psych Nursing preferred, demonstrating a strong understanding of the unit they will be assisting in leadership. .
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency in providing general nursing care. Basic understanding of psychiatric nursing theory
  • CPR/Handle With Care certification preferred.
