Job description

Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics (DoP), invite applicants to apply to this 0.25 FTE, Fee for Service, Locum Eating Disorder Pediatrician position at the Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) Eating Disorders Clinic.  This is a shared position between the sections of Adolescent Medicine and Pediatric Hospital Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. 

This position would ideally be suited for a General Pediatrician, Hospital Pediatrician or an Adolescent Medicine Specialist with demonstrated experience and strong skills in Adolescent Health and Eating Disorder medical care or Adolescent Medicine Specialist looking for this type of practice.  This role will work in an acute care setting at the ACH where patients with eating disorders are currently being admitted for acute medical stabilization and nutritional rehabilitation.

The 0.25 FTE Locum will be expected to work 1 week per month in an MRP role. Typically, the position would be Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. 

The Physician will be responsible for consults from the emergency department and ACH clinics for admission for medical stabilization of patients with eating disorders (on average 1 per day, each taking 1-2 hours). Daily inpatient care of medically unstable eating disorder patients (average of 5-10 inpatients at any given time). The Physician would be supported by an interdisciplinary team including psychiatrist, therapist/family counsellor, nurses and dietician.

This practitioner would work closely with the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Teams, Psychiatry Consult Liaison inpatient service and have the Adolescent Medicine Specialists as resources for complex cases that need further consultation.

The Section of Adolescent Medicine, based at the Alberta Children's Hospital, provides specialized care to adolescents (ages 12-23). Adolescent Medicine subspecialists focus on the comprehensive assessment and treatment of complex adolescent health issues in a variety of programs including the Calgary Eating Disorder Program. A locum with RCPSC certification in Adolescent Medicine, would also be responsible for additional inpatient consultation on other non-eating disorder adolescent issues as needed. The position does not require general pediatric/CTU coverage.
