Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) โ€“ Surgery

Up to $40.00/hour (based on experience and skill set) + $5.50/hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM

Full-Time | Temporary (6โ€“12 Months) | 4/10 Schedule with Occasional Weekend Day

SAGE Veterinary Centers โ€“ Redwood City is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Surgery team in a temporary full-time role with the potential to transition into a permanent position. As one of the Bay Area's premier specialty and emergency veterinary hospitals, SAGE Redwood City provides advanced surgical care supported by board-certified surgeons and a collaborative team of specialists dedicated to delivering exceptional patient outcomes.

This role is ideal for an experienced RVT who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and is passionate about anesthesia, perioperative nursing, and providing exceptional patient care from admission through recovery.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will:

  • Prepare surgical suites, sterilize instruments, and assist with patient preparation before surgery.

  • Administer, monitor, and adjust anesthesia throughout surgical procedures.

  • Assist surgeons by supplying instruments and maintaining strict aseptic technique.

  • Monitor patients during recovery, administer medications, and maintain accurate medical records.

  • Obtain and process radiographs to support surgical planning and patient care.

  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and anesthesia equipment.

  • Educate clients on postoperative care, medications, and discharge instructions.

  • Assist with emergency surgical procedures as needed.

  • Accurately calculate drug dosages, continuous rate infusions (CRIs), client estimates, and invoices.

  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, RVTs, and support staff to ensure efficient workflow and outstanding patient care.

  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative hospital culture focused on surgical excellence.

What You Bring

  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Clinical experience in veterinary surgery required.

  • Strong anesthesia monitoring and perioperative nursing skills.

  • Ability to accurately calculate medication dosages, CRIs, client estimates, and invoices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients and team members.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.

  • California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire if not already waived by a valid California RVT license.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced specialty surgical environment.
