JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/ Objective
East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their community. ESH's COMPASS Elementary Summer Camp Program aligns with our mission by providing high-quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships.
Our COMPASS Summer Camp Program, funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), offers high-quality summer programming designed to support the academic, social, and emotional development of youth.
Our summer camp provides a safe, engaging, and enriching environment where participants explore STEM, arts, sports, leadership, social-emotional learning, and more through hands-on, interactive experiences.
We are seeking dedicated and passionate Youth Educators who are committed to youth development, bring creativity to their work, and can actively engage and inspire young people.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Youth Educator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate enrichment activities across academic and enrichment areas, including STEM, arts, sports, dance, leadership, and social-emotional learning aligned with DYCD and East Side House goals.
  • Create detailed lesson plans and curriculum that support youth development, physical fitness, and social-emotional learning.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Build positive relationships with youth, families, and staff through professionalism and respect.
  • Supervise participants to ensure safety, active engagement, and skill development.
  • Collaborate with team members on programming and daily operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized program spaces and properly manage materials and equipment.
  • Accurately complete required documentation, including attendance, incident reports, and behavior logs.
  • Support enrollment, administrative tasks, and daily program needs.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development.
  • Assist with trips, special events, and family engagement activities.
  • Provide program coverage as needed to meet operational needs.
  • Travel locally for off-site programming when required.
  • Always represent the mission and values of East Side House and DYCD.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum age (ex, 18+)
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth, preferably in urban communities
  • Experience or strong interest in sports, dance, or martial arts instruction
  • Passion for youth development, education, and creative programming
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead and engage groups of children effectively
  • Culturally responsive and committed to inclusive environments
  • Professional, reliable, and able to motivate youth
  • Flexible, adaptable, and open to feedback
