Job description

Senior Software Engineer – Embedded Systems & Product Development

Minneapolis, MN | Direct Hire | $90,000–$140,000

Konik is partnering with a family-owned engineering and manufacturing company seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the development of embedded software, applications, and connected solutions for advanced HVAC and refrigeration products. This role will play a key part in bringing products from concept through production while providing technical leadership across software development initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with embedded firmware, mobile and desktop application development, and full product software lifecycle ownership. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on engineering leadership role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring engineers, and developing innovative products used in real-world applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software development efforts for new product introductions and improvements to existing products.
  • Design, develop, test, and support embedded firmware, mobile applications, and desktop software solutions.
  • Serve as a technical leader on engineering projects, guiding design decisions and driving solutions from concept through production release.
  • Own project-level software goals, establish milestones, and help break complex technical challenges into actionable tasks.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers by providing technical guidance, troubleshooting assistance, and development coaching.
  • Develop software specifications, test plans, and validation processes to support reliable product performance.
  • Support new product development activities, including design reviews, stage gate meetings, and production implementation.
  • Provide advanced production support and troubleshoot software-related issues impacting manufacturing or released products.
  • Maintain and update production software documentation and released product records through established change control processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in embedded firmware and mobile/desktop application development.
  • Experience supporting the complete software product lifecycle from concept through launch and ongoing improvements.
  • Strong programming experience with C++, C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, or similar technologies.
  • Experience developing and testing applications for Android and iOS platforms.
  • Experience with embedded systems development and software integration.
  • Understanding of new product development processes and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, Ethernet, TCP/IP, or other communication protocols.
  • Experience with JIRA or similar project management tools.
  • Experience with Infor ERP.
  • SolidWorks experience.
  • Experience with DBWorks or Enterprise PDM.
  • HVAC/R industry experience or EPA 608 certification.
