What is the difference between Earthquake Modeling vs Seismic Hazard Analysis?

AspectEarthquake ModelingSeismic Hazard Analysis
Required CredentialsGeophysics or Earthquake Engineering degrees, certifications in seismic analysisSimilar credentials, often requiring seismic or geotechnical expertise
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, consulting firms, government agenciesField sites, consulting firms, government agencies
Industry UsageDevelops earthquake scenarios, hazard modelsAssesses potential seismic risks for infrastructure and communities
Common Search/ComparisonEarthquake Modeling vs Seismic Hazard Analysis

Earthquake Modeling focuses on creating detailed simulations of earthquake processes, while Seismic Hazard Analysis evaluates the potential risks and impacts of earthquakes on structures and populations. Both roles require similar credentials and often work together within the seismic risk assessment process, but they serve different purposes in earthquake preparedness and mitigation.
