Assistant/Associate/Full Professor: R. S. Yeats Endowed Professorship in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology

Department: Earth, Ocean & Atmo Sci (OAS)

Appointment Type: Academic Faculty

Job Location: Corvallis, Oregon

Job Summary: The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a part‑time 0.75 FTE, 12‑month tenure‑track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. This appointment holds the R. S. Yeats Endowed Professorship, providing annual funds to develop a cutting‑edge research program in active tectonics and earthquake geology.

The successful candidate will conduct field‑based interdisciplinary research that integrates geological and geophysical data with analytical and computational techniques to understand crustal deformation over earthquake cycles and longer timescales. Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, continental deformation, subduction zones, paleoseismology, paleogeodesy, and fault‑zone mechanics. The role also requires teaching, scholarship, and service commitments that inspire students and advance the mission of the College.

Key Responsibilities
  • 50% – Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in geology and/or marine geology, and other specialty courses as needed.
  • 40% – Research and scholarship, including independent scientific research, grant development, and publication.
  • 10% – Service to the College, university, and professional community.

  • Doctoral degree in Geology or a cognate field.
