Eap Therapy information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EAP therapist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) Therapist, you need a master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work, along with relevant state licensure (e.g., LPC, LCSW). Familiarity with case management systems, telehealth platforms, and confidentiality regulations such as HIPAA is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and the ability to manage crisis situations set exceptional EAP Therapists apart. These skills ensure effective support for employees, promote mental well-being, and uphold confidentiality in diverse workplace environments.

How does an EAP therapist typically collaborate with HR and management teams within an organization?

EAP Therapists often work closely with HR and management to support employees' mental health and well-being while maintaining client confidentiality. They may provide guidance on workplace stressors, facilitate workshops, and offer recommendations for improving workplace culture. Regular communication with HR ensures that employees are aware of available EAP services and that interventions align with organizational policies. This collaborative approach helps create a supportive environment while respecting the privacy of those seeking help.

What is EAP therapy?

EAP therapy, or Employee Assistance Program therapy, is a confidential counseling service provided by employers to help employees address personal or work-related issues. EAP therapists assist with a range of concerns, including stress, mental health, substance abuse, family problems, and workplace conflicts. The goal is to support employee well-being, improve workplace productivity, and provide short-term intervention or referral to additional resources when needed. EAP therapy is typically free of charge to employees and may include in-person, phone, or virtual sessions.

Description:

$120,000–$135,000 (based on experience) + $10k Sign-On Bonus | Licensed (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PhD/PsyD) | Riverside, CA | Full-Time

About the Role: Muir Wood Teen Treatment is hiring an experienced, licensed therapist for our adolescent residential treatment program in Riverside. This is a primary therapist seeing clients day-to-day, with the gravitas and experience to serve as second in command to the Clinical Director — a trusted advisor to the team, providing guidance and an extra layer of clinical support when cases need it. It's also a natural path toward future clinical leadership for the right person.

Why Join Us:

- $10k sign-on bonus for this role

- Experience serving in a clinical leadership capacity

- Collaborative, team-based environment where your judgment shapes the program

- Full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k + match, PTO, FSA, EAP

What You'll Do:

- Carry a full clinical caseload — individual, family, and group therapy for adolescents and families

- Serve as a trusted partner with the Clinical Director and clinical team

- Step into clinical decision-making and leadership coverage in the Clinical Director's absence

- Supervise AMFT, APCC, and ASW clinicians working toward licensure

- Support therapists with case conceptualization, treatment planning, family work, and complex clinical decisions

- Help lead treatment team meetings, case consultations, and shift huddles

- Coach and mentor therapists, recovery counselors, care coordinators, and shift supervisors in real time

- Coordinate care with psychiatrists, nurses, educators, and residential staff

- Support admissions, discharges, utilization review, and transitions of care

- Maintain compliance with CCL, Joint Commission, payer, and documentation standards

- Participate in the leadership on-call rotation

The Lead Therapist will work Sunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday, which will be determined through discussion during the hiring process.

Requirements:

What We're Looking For:

Must Have:

- Master's or doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or MFT

- Active CA license: LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PhD, or PsyD

- Meets California requirements to supervise associate clinicians

- 3+ years in adolescent residential treatment, psychiatric care, or another intensive behavioral health setting

- Experience supervising, mentoring, or informally leading other clinicians

- Strong background in trauma-informed care, family therapy, and complex co-occurring needs

Preferred:

- Prior experience as a Clinical Lead, Clinical Supervisor, Assistant Clinical Director, or Program Director

- Training in DBT, CBT, EMDR, or motivational interviewing

- Familiarity with CCL and Joint Commission standards

Benefits:

- Medical/Dental/Vision

- Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

- 401k + Match

- PTO/Sick Pay

- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

- Employee Discount Marketplace

- Company-provided mobile phone and laptop
