Job description

Senior Tax Accountant / Tax Manager

Transition from Public Accounting to a Better Long-Term Career

Location: Omaha, NE (Hybrid)

Ready to Leave Public Accounting Without Leaving Tax?

If you enjoy tax but are tired of 60-80 hour weeks, endless compliance work, and another busy season that looks exactly like the last one, this could be the career move you've been looking for.

Our client is one of Omaha's fastest-growing wealth management firms and is expanding its in-house tax practice to better serve an established, high-quality client base. Rather than simply preparing returns, you'll become part of a collaborative advisory team that integrates tax planning, wealth management, investment strategy, and estate planning to help clients make smarter financial decisions.

Even better, you'll do it while enjoying a significantly healthier work-life balance, a flexible hybrid schedule, and a clearly defined path toward leadership and partnership.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

Leave the Busy-Season Grind

  • Typical workload is 40-45 hours per week outside of tax season.
  • Peak weeks generally average 50 hours, not the 70+ hour schedules common in public accounting.
  • Hybrid work environment with flexibility built around performance and client needs.

Become an Advisor—Not Just a Tax Preparer

You'll work alongside experienced wealth advisors to help clients make informed financial decisions throughout the year instead of simply filing returns after the fact.

This is an opportunity to build lasting client relationships while expanding your knowledge of:

  • Tax planning
  • Wealth management
  • Investment strategies
  • Estate planning
  • Business succession planning

Defined Path to Leadership & Partnership

This firm is intentionally building its tax practice and is looking for someone who wants to grow with it.

Leadership opportunities are clearly defined, with a realistic path toward becoming a Partner for someone who demonstrates technical excellence, leadership, and a client-first mindset.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and review individual, business, trust, and other tax returns.
  • Manage tax compliance and filing deadlines for an expanding client base.
  • Provide proactive tax planning recommendations that help clients reduce taxes and build wealth.
  • Partner with financial advisors to develop comprehensive planning strategies.
  • Meet with clients to explain tax strategies and answer questions.
  • Help integrate clients from acquired accounting practices.
  • Assist leadership in developing scalable processes as the tax department continues to grow.
  • Contribute ideas that improve both the client experience and operational efficiency.

Customize the Role Around Your Strengths

One of the unique aspects of this opportunity is its flexibility.

Technical Tax Path

Prefer technical work?

  • Focus primarily on tax preparation and review.
  • Limited client-facing responsibilities.
  • Continue building deep technical expertise.

Client Advisory Path

Enjoy working directly with clients?

  • Participate in financial planning meetings.
  • Provide tax guidance throughout the year.
  • Spend less time preparing returns and more time helping clients make strategic financial decisions.

Your role can evolve as your interests and career goals change.

Qualifications

Senior Tax Accountant

  • 2-4+ years of public accounting tax experience
  • Experience preparing individual and/or business tax returns
  • EA or CPA preferred (CPA candidates encouraged to apply)

Tax Manager

  • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience
  • Experience reviewing complex returns and managing client relationships
  • CPA required

Additional Qualifications

  • Public accounting background
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a growing team

Compensation

Senior Tax Accountant

$75,000-$95,000

Tax Manager

$125,000-$160,000

Additional compensation may include:

  • Performance bonuses
  • Leadership development opportunities
  • Clearly defined partnership track
  • Professional growth within a rapidly expanding firm

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule
  • Flexibility to work remotely
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture
  • High-quality clients and meaningful advisory work
  • A modern, growth-focused firm that values work-life balance

If you've been waiting for the right opportunity to leave public accounting—but still want to build a successful career in tax—this is your chance.

Enjoy better hours, deeper client relationships, meaningful advisory work, and a realistic path to ownership, all while continuing to grow your tax expertise within one of Omaha's premier wealth management firms.
