Job description


FULL-TIME DAYS
The Housekeeping Associate II is responsible for the general cleanliness of the following areas at the Medical Facilities: Procedure areas, Wound Care, Emergency Department, GI Lab, Intensive Care Unit patient care areas, restrooms, and all other areas requiring Environmental Services support. Removes trash and linen from the hospital using compactor and cardboard baler. Distributes linen throughout the hospital. The routine work of this employee, depending upon the area of assignment, consists of sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, wiping, surface cleaning all floors, walls, ceilings, sinks, mirrors, showers, commodes, windows, and other glass areas, waiting areas and public hallways. Performs terminal cleaning of isolation rooms or exam rooms as required. Moving furniture and other heavy equipment is accomplished as directed. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
General Functions:
  • Performs cleaning functions in assigned areas using prescribed methods.
  • Maintains assigned equipment for cleanliness and have repairs done when necessary.
  • Observes and reports on the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building and fixtures.
  • Applies proper infection control practices and isolation techniques.
  • Performing other assigned tasks
  • Accounts for cleanliness and neat appearance of assigned areas ensures that the schedule is complete, and instructions from the supervisors are followed.
  • Utilizes tools, supplies and chemicals for their intended purposes so that equipment and hospital property are not damaged.
  • Use good judgment and proper procedures in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Supports the mission and vision of the Baptist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service always.
  • Understands and enforces system, departmental and hospital policies and procedures as well as established rules and regulations.
  • Train in other functions or positions to ensure satisfactory operation of the department/work unit or to permit flexible staffing assignments.
  • Complies with System and facility safety policies and rules; utilizes appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; reports all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented environment and to perform duties and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Completes assignments independently and works as part of a team; takes instructions from supervisors; exercises problem-solving skills; and interacts with co-workers, supervisors, patients, vendors and the public in a professional and pleasant manner.
  • Communicates appropriately to other employees and customers based on the situation and the age level of the person.
  • Performs all essential job functions while on duty
  • Understands and complies with the Baptist Healthcare code-of-conduct and models ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community.

Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Able to read, write and understand the English language.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: High School Graduate, GED, or 2 years of full-time work experience in environmental services in lieu of education.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years of cleaning experience in hospitality or healthcare and terminal cleaning experience.
