Job description

General Dynamics is the world's foremost designer and builder of nuclear submarines. We are a team of like-minded people pushing the boundaries of state-of-the-art applications for submarine design, manufacturing and construction. The IT Oracle ERP development group has openings for highly motivated software engineers to support Electric Boat’s customization of our ERP application suite. ERP is the vehicle for integrating people, processes and technologies across a digital finance and supply chain ecosystem. These applications will reduce program costs and prepare the company to face the challenges and opportunities of a modernized digital enterprise. Our team members must have strong verbal and written communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences. You will grow your skills, work with the cutting-edge technologies and introduce new tools and techniques to the team. There are plenty of opportunities for leadership growth as well. You will work in an environment that encourages creative thinking and novel solutions to continuously challenging problems.  You will be creating software applications that make our company work effectively and efficiently at what we do – which is designing and constructing the world’s finest submarines for the United States Navy.  

The core responsibilities include: 

  • Customize our Oracle eBusiness Suite and the adjacent applications which comprise Electric Boat’s ERP solution to meet the complex needs of our Finance and Supply Chain business units
  • Work with business customers and IT Jusystem engineers to turn business requirements into technical solutions
  • Writing well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices. 
  • Promoting strict code peer review practices as well as testing and validation to ensure high-quality coding standards.
  • Maintenance of software applications throughout the lifecycle of the product

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems
  • 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience 
  • Java and/or web-based application development using JavaScript

Preferred:

  • Experience developing applications with Oracle/SQL databases using programming languages such as Java, JavaScript
  • Experience or knowledge of Agile development methodologies
  • Experience in DevOps CI/CD pipelines is advantageous
  • Functional awareness of Finance or Supply Chain business processes

  • Enthusiasm for working in high performing team environment and collaborating with customers to define scope and design 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated to learn new skills for solving complex/challenging problems
  • Capable of working in a fast paced, dynamic and team-oriented environment
  • Ability to multitask and still stay focused on release priorities
