Overview
We are seeking a Full Stack Engineer to build, maintain, and modernize NLM's Value Set Authority Center (VSAC) systems. This role supports VSAC web applications, terminology services, value set authoring, APIs, search, scheduled jobs, content/document management, and healthcare data pipelines.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with React, Node.js, Java/Spring, Oracle, Elasticsearch, GitLab CI, AWS, Quartz Scheduler, and Alfresco CMS/ECM in a secure enterprise environment.
What You Will Do
  • Build and maintain VSAC applications using React, Node.js, Java, and Spring.
  • Develop secure REST APIs for value set search, retrieval, download, validation, authoring, publishing, and administration.
  • Maintain Oracle-backed services, database schemas, SQL/PLSQL logic, indexes, and performance tuning.
  • Build and optimize Elasticsearch indexes for value sets, codes, terms, metadata, versions, and terminology content.
  • Develop Quartz-based jobs for terminology processing, validation, synchronization, indexing, reporting, cleanup, and maintenance.
  • Integrate VSAC systems with Alfresco CMS/ECM for documents, downloadable assets, metadata, and content workflows.
  • Build ingestion and transformation pipelines for clinical vocabularies, value sets, XML/JSON files, SQL exports, and terminology releases.
  • Implement secure authentication, authorization, access control, session handling, and API security.
  • Maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines and support AWS-based deployments, monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response.

What you Will Need
  • Must be able to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DoD "PUBLIC TRUST"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their PUBLIC TRUST prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an ACTIVE PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab, REST APIs, Linux environments, and collaborative development.
  • Minimum of FIVE (5) years of full stack engineering experience.
  • Strong frontend experience with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, reusable components, and responsive UI design.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab, REST APIs, Linux environments, and collaborative development.
  • Backend experience with Node.js and Java/Spring, including secure REST APIs, authentication, authorization, and service-layer development.

  • Experience with Alfresco CMS/ECM for document management, content storage, metadata, workflows, retrieval, and publishing.
  • Experience building data pipelines for healthcare, terminology, XML, JSON, and database-export data.
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD, AWS deployment, monitoring, release management, rollback planning, and production support.
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability, clinical vocabularies, value sets, terminology services, or federal health systems.

Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Familiarity with VSAC, UMLS, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD, CPT, HCPCS, FHIR, HL7, eCQM, CMS quality programs, or CQL.
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Security, JPA/Hibernate, Maven/Gradle, and Java microservices.
  • Experience with testing tools such as Selenium, JUnit, Cucumber, or API testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Alfresco APIs, content models, permissions, metadata extraction, document workflows, and ECM integrations.
  • Experience with Quartz clustering, job recovery, cron expressions, batch jobs, and operational monitoring.
