Orientation & Mobility Specialist

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Orientation & Mobility Specialist to join our educational team. This role involves providing specialized instruction to individuals with visual impairments, enabling them to navigate their environments safely and confidently. The specialist will assess students' needs, develop personalized training plans, and teach essential travel and orientation techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine students' orientation and mobility needs.
  • Design and implement individualized instruction plans.
  • Teach safe and effective travel skills, including cane techniques, spatial orientation, and route planning.
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and other professionals to support student progress.
  • Provide training in the use of assistive technology and devices as needed.
  • Document and report on student progress and outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation & Mobility or a related field.
  • Certification in Orientation & Mobility (e.g., ACVREP or N BPCB).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with individuals with visual impairments, especially in an educational setting, is preferred.

This role is essential in empowering visually impaired students to achieve greater independence and confidence in navigating their environments.

Salary is commensurate with degree and experience.
