Job description

Job Description

Are you interested in being a part of a collaborative, energetic, and business-oriented legal team? As an Outside Counsel Analyst Lead at FIS, you will play a key role in supporting and managing FIS's end-to-end outside counsel program. This highly visible role partners directly with senior executives, Legal leadership, Finance, and outside law firms to help optimize legal spend, strengthen panel management, and deliver data-driven insights for a thriving Fortune 500 company in a dynamic financial technology industry.

About the role:

The Analyst Lead will serve as an experienced legal operations professional focused on outside counsel management, e-billing, matter management, and legal spend analytics. Brightflag experience is ideal, while a strong finance background is required, including budgeting, forecasting, invoice review, accruals, and financial reporting related to legal spend.

What you will be doing:

Support and manage FIS's end-to-end outside counsel program, including law firm panel governance, engagement processes, performance tracking, and operational reporting.

Serve as a key point of contact for outside counsel panel firms, coordinating matter openings, billing guidelines, rate management, performance expectations, and relationship management.

Partner directly with senior executives, Legal leadership, Finance, and business stakeholders to provide actionable insights on outside counsel utilization, matter status, budgets, and legal spend trends.

Administer and optimize Brightflag as the primary e-billing and matter management platform, including matter data, invoice workflows, reporting, user support, and process improvements.

Lead invoice review, billing guideline compliance, accrual processes, budget tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting for legal spend across the outside counsel program.

Analyze legal spend, matter activity, law firm performance, and panel utilization to identify trends, risks, savings opportunities, and process enhancements.

Prepare executive-level reporting, dashboards, presentations, and recommendations that support data-driven decisions regarding legal operations and outside counsel management.

Develop, maintain, and enhance outside counsel policies, billing guidelines, playbooks, workflows, and standard operating procedures, ensuring alignment with Legal and Finance requirements.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives across legal operations, including process automation, data quality, vendor performance management, and adoption of legal technology best practices.

What you will need:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience. A strong finance, accounting, business, or analytics background is essential.

5+ years of progressive experience in legal operations, outside counsel management, e-billing, legal spend management, finance, or related corporate legal department operations.

Hands-on experience administering and using an e-billing tool for matter management, invoice review, budget tracking, reporting, and legal spend analytics.

Demonstrated experience managing outside counsel programs or law firm panels, including billing guidelines, rate management, vendor performance, and relationship management.

Advanced financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, accruals, invoice review, variance analysis, and executive-level legal spend reporting.

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal spend data, identify trends, and translate findings into clear business recommendations.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working directly with senior executives, Legal leadership, Finance partners, and outside law firms.

High degree of judgment, professionalism, and ownership, with the ability to manage confidential information, competing priorities, and complex cross-functional initiatives.

What we offer you:

  • A multifaceted and challenging legal operations career with a high degree of responsibility
  • A broad spectrum of legal operations experiences with a thriving Fortune 500 corporation in an innovative, ever-changing industry
  • A modern work environment, and a collaborative and dedicated group of colleagues who look forward to working together as a team to accomplish our goals
  • A competitive salary and a range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing
  • The chance to work on high-impact legal operations, outside counsel management, and legal spend initiatives in financial services and information technology
