An E Design job involves creating digital interior design solutions for clients remotely. Designers use online tools, mood boards, and 3D renderings to plan and visualize spaces without in-person meetings. This role requires expertise in design software, communication skills, and an understanding of client needs. E Designers often provide furniture layouts, color schemes, and shopping lists for clients to execute the design themselves. It’s a flexible and cost-effective alternative to traditional interior design services.

What are the typical projects and collaborative workflows like for an E Design professional?

E Design professionals frequently work on projects ranging from digital layouts and electronic circuit schematics to architectural visualization, depending on their industry focus. They often collaborate closely with engineers, architects, project managers, or marketing teams to align design outputs with functional and client requirements. A standard workflow involves conceptualizing designs, producing drafts using specialized software, incorporating team feedback, and finalizing deliverables under set deadlines. This collaborative environment helps ensure high-quality design solutions that meet both technical standards and user expectations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the E Design position, and why are they important?

To excel in E Design, a strong background in digital design principles, proficiency with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or Adobe Creative Suite, and a relevant degree or certification are typically required. Familiarity with electronic design tools, schematic capture, or architectural visualization platforms is often necessary depending on the specific area of E Design. Creativity, attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills. These competencies empower professionals to create effective electronic or digital designs and collaborate efficiently within multidisciplinary teams.

Joining STV's Building Group (Federal Programs Division), you'll be STV's champion for growing STV's presence with Federal-Civilian clients (FedCiv), with a special emphasis on General Services Administration (GSA). All other FedCiv clients such as the Executive Branch, AOC, DHS, NASA, DOS, DOI, FAA, et cetera all belong to this market scope. You will report directly to the National Market Sector Leader (MSL) for Federal Programs.

Our ownership structure promotes stability and enables us to invest in long-term solutions and strategies helping us establish a strong foundation in the markets we pursue. We believe our people power our success, and our success is a result of empowering our people.

Our Federal Programs practice has a solid track record of serving both military and civilian federal clients by offering a diverse range of planning, architectural and engineering design and construction program management services for a diversity of project types. Further, as the FedCiv lead, you will work with STV's other operating groups to ensure they have access to and support in the pursuit of their market objectives.

What You Will Do in This Role

  • Work closely with the Buildings Group - National Director of Federal Programs, marketing, and business development teams to develop strategic plans and secure new contracts

  • Lead the identification and prioritization of opportunities with clients in the FedCiv space

  • Work with the balance of the STV Federal Programs and Buildings team and other STV operating groups to position for solicitations well in advance of their publication, including meeting with agency staff, industry partners and stakeholders

  • Establish and manage relationships with design and design-build contractor partners.

  • Interact regularly with Buildings' discipline leaders and the Project Delivery director to align project delivery with client expectations

  • Boost STV's FedCiv national visibility through attendance of and active participation in regional and national industry conferences

  • Grow STV's FedCiv digital visibility in collaboration and coordination with the Federal MSL and our corporate communications team

  • Maintain CRM entries and reporting to ensure accurate and current pipeline analysis.

  • Develop and present strategy, goals, and progress reports to peers and senior leadership.

  • Identify internal staff for elevation and engagement in the growth strategy, and external talent for potential recruitment.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field; Masters' degree preferred.

  • 15+ years of combined experience preferred, with a demonstrated track record of driving business development, increasing profit and revenue within existing client relationships, and cultivating strong relationships that result in new business.

  • Architectural or engineering background with the ability to understand and speak credibly to the full building design scope, including architectural, MEP, structural, and civil engineering disciplines.

  • The ability to take high-level directives and work independently and collaboratively to execute them.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Deltek GovWin or similar procurement tracking tools, MS Office Suite.

  • A strong working knowledge of federal civilian market procurement practices and a proven history of managing those programs while employed by the government or developing and implementing strategic initiatives to obtain federal contracts while employed in the private sector.

  • MUST hold a U.S. citizenship, a valid REAL ID driver's license, and an active U.S. Passport.

Nice to Have Qualifications

  • Prior experience serving as a Project Manager, Design Manager, or similar delivery leadership role within an architecture, engineering, or integrated building design environment.

  • Professional registration or certification such as RA, AIA, PE, PMP, LEED AP, or equivalent credential.

  • Experience supporting federal agency pursuits from early positioning through proposal development, interviews, award, and transition to delivery teams.

Ready to Make a Difference?

With more than seven decades of experience in this market sector, STV is well-suited to meet the evolving needs of the nation's federal agencies. That's because STV's team understands that the work done today will benefit the nation for decades to come because it is building infrastructure that serves and protects families, communities and national interests.
