Job description

St. John Catholic School, located in Westminster, Maryland, is seeking a full-time Primary School Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic school year. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic and faith-filled school community dedicated to academic excellence and the formation of the whole child.
The Primary School Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in all core subject areas within a self-contained classroom. The successful candidate will create a nurturing and engaging learning environment that supports students' academic, spiritual, social, and emotional development while promoting a love of learning and fostering Catholic values.
Responsibilities include planning and delivering standards-based instruction, assessing student progress, differentiating instruction to meet individual learning needs, maintaining effective classroom management, and collaborating with colleagues and families to support student success. The teacher will integrate faith into daily classroom experiences and serve as a positive role model for students.
Candidates should possess strong instructional and communication skills, a commitment to Catholic education, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. A passion for educating young learners and supporting their growth as children of God is essential.
St. John Catholic School seeks an educator who is dedicated to helping students achieve their fullest potential while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
Essential Functions
  • Create and implement lesson plans with clear objectives inline with the Archdiocesan Course of Study, utilizing techniques to motivate, challenge, engage, and inspire students to think confidently and independently.
  • Responsible for the safety and active supervision of students.
  • Integrate the use of technology effectively into the curriculum.
  • Establish reasonable standards for student achievement.
  • Observe and assess student progress, record such progress, and share with parents as required by school policy.
  • Maintain high professional standards consistent with the mission of the school and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Interact effectively and respond to all parent communications in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, collaborative planning meetings, retreats, school committees, and in-service learning opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration.

Position Qualifications
  • Degree in Education.
  • MSDE Certification or the ability to obtain certification in 1-2 years.
  • Experience in student teaching or classroom teaching at the elementary school level.
  • Familiarity with a variety of technology tool to enrich and differentiate instruction.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred.
