Private Duty Float Nurse
Position Summary
The Private Duty Float Nurse provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to private duty clients across multiple locations and care settings. This role offers flexibility and requires adaptability, professionalism, and strong clinical judgment. The Float Nurse supports staffing needs by covering open shifts, vacations, and high-acuity cases while maintaining consistency in care standards and patient experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized private duty nursing care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric clients in home or facility-based settings
  • Float between assigned clients and locations based on operational needs
  • Follow physician orders and individualized care plans
  • Perform skilled nursing tasks such as medication administration, tracheostomy care, ventilator management, wound care, and assessments (as applicable to license and client needs)
  • Accurately document patient care, observations, and changes in condition
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, clinical supervisors, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Maintain compliance with state regulations, agency policies, and safety standards
  • Promote patient dignity, comfort, and independence
  • Respond professionally to varying care environments and family dynamics
Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted LPN or RN license in the applicable state
  • Minimum 1 year of private duty or home health nursing experience preferred
  • Strong clinical skills and ability to work independently
  • Flexible availability to support varying shifts, clients, and locations
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within assigned service area
  • Current CPR certification (BLS required)
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills
