Assistant Engineer 

JOB STATUS: FT/Permanant Party

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Engineer to work full time aboard USAV Worthy, Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. Astrion has worked extensively at Kwajalein where it has earned a reputation for on-time delivery of high-quality products tailored to the needs of its clients.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • HS Diploma or equivalent 
  • Ability to pass a federal background check to obtain and hold a DoD Common Access Card (CAC).  Current U.S. Citizenship Required 
  • Ability to pass a post offer drug screen and physical/medical clearance. Current and Valid U.S. Passport*. 
  • Two (2) years’ experience as an engineer (Graduation from a US State or Federal Maritime Academy may be substituted for the 2-year experience).
  • Shall hold an Oceans U.S Coast Guard national and international/STCW credential as Assistant Engineer of motor vessels powered by engines of not less than 2500 HP, or as an USCG Designated Duty Engineer (Unrestricted) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in those classes.
  • CERTIFICATION: U.S Coast Guard national and international/STCW credential as Assistant Engineer of motor vessels powered by engines of not less than 2500 HP, or as an USCG Designated Duty Engineer (Unrestricted)

*(Passport, MMC and med cert must have minimum of 6 months of validity prior to placement, or proof of renewal in progress.) 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

  • Knowledge of common safety practices and protective equipment used on an ocean-going vessel.
  • Two (2) years’ experience as an engineer.
  • Diesel electric propulsion experience
  • Caterpillar marine diesel power generation and propulsion engine experience
  • Self-starter, team player and conscientious worker

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Assistant Engineer works with the Chief Engineer to ensure the vessel is maintained in a seaworthy, clean and safe manner. The Assistant Engineer maintains all shipboard systems including, but not limited to propulsion, electrical, electronic, fuel, hydraulic, sanitation and potable water systems. Asst. Engineer is the officer in charge of an engineering watch and assists in the supervision of the engineering department. Supervises engineering watch team members.
  • Supervises, operates, and maintains the engineering plant and auxiliary systems on the U.S. Army Vessel (USAV) Worthy.
  • Determines parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment.
  • Operating hand and power tools used in the maritime industry.
  • Oversees the USAV Worthy preventive maintenance program and coordinates for required USAG‐KA Marine repair shop support. Accurately inputs O&M data, and projects long range maintenance issues.
  • Ensures the vessel maintains ABS Load‐line and U.S. Army standards.
  • Ensuring all personnel are wearing the appropriate PPE for the assigned task.
  • Responsible for assisting in maintaining the safety and security of the ship and embarked personnel
  • Perform Fire and Emergency duties associated with the Assistant Engineer’s billet on Ship’s Station Bill. 
  • Ensure relevant records are maintained and accurately completed. 
  • Remains on standby/recall status to the vessel during dockside periods, as needed. 
  • Comply with applicable RGNEXT and Astrion safety policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines, including but not limited to RGNEXT OSHE hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs.
