During School Hours information

What are during school hours jobs?

'During School Hours' jobs are positions that are scheduled to take place within the typical school day, usually between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. These jobs are ideal for parents, caregivers, or students who need work that fits around a school timetable. Common examples include teaching assistants, administrative roles in schools, cafeteria workers, or crossing guards. Such roles allow employees to work while children are at school and be available for drop-off and pick-up times. The flexibility of these hours makes them popular among those seeking work-life balance.

What types of positions are commonly available for those seeking work during school hours, and how flexible are these roles?

Positions available during school hours often include roles such as teacher aides, administrative assistants in schools, childcare workers, cafeteria staff, and part-time retail or office work that aligns with typical school schedules. These roles are popular among parents and caregivers who need to be available before and after school. Flexibility varies by employer, but many of these positions are specifically structured to accommodate school drop-off and pick-up times, providing a supportive environment for those balancing work and family responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a school counselor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a School Counselor, you need a background in counseling or psychology, often supported by a master's degree and state certification or licensure. Familiarity with student information systems, counseling software, and assessment tools is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, empathy, and problem-solving abilities help counselors build trust and support students' academic, social, and emotional growth. These skills are essential to effectively address student needs and promote a positive school environment.

Job description

About Tree of Life Family Services

Tree of Life Family Services LLC provides behavioral health services to children and families throughout Northern Virginia. We value compassion, professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
About the Position

We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) Counselors to join our growing school-based team in Loudoun County.
TDT Counselors work directly with children and adolescents who need additional emotional, behavioral, or mental health support within the school environment. Counselors help students strengthen coping skills, emotional regulation, communication, social skills, problem-solving, and overall school functioning.
What You'll Do

• Provide individual therapeutic interventions, behavioral support, and skill-building activities
• Conduct individual student sessions and classroom observations
• Implement individualized treatment goals and monitor student progress
• Conduct weekly family sessions and participate in care coordination with school social workers and treatment providers
• Provide appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation support
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Participate in supervision, case consultation, meetings, and required training
• Maintain professional relationships with students, families, school staff, and the Tree of Life team
QMHP Credential Requirement

Candidates must hold the appropriate Virginia registration required to provide TDT services.
We are seeking candidates with an active QMHP or QMHP-Trainee (QMHP-T) registration.
Candidates who may qualify for QMHP-T may be considered during the initial screening process while pursuing registration. However, the required active credential must be received and verified by Tree of Life before a final employment offer for the TDT Counselor position is issued. A pending application or receipt does not constitute credential approval.
What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's or master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, human services, or a related field
• Experience working with children or adolescents preferred
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
• Dependable, punctual, professional, and comfortable working independently in a school setting
• Ability to collaborate with families, school personnel, supervisors, and treatment providers
• Reliable transportation to assigned school locations
• Willingness to learn, receive supervision, and grow professionally
School Assignment, Schedule & Caseload

Counselors are assigned to schools and student caseloads based on referrals, authorizations, staffing, student needs, and program operations. School assignments, caseloads, schedules, and available hours may change based on program and student needs.
Consistency matters. Counselors are expected to arrive on time, maintain reliable attendance, remain actively engaged with assigned students, complete documentation, and communicate promptly regarding absences or scheduling concerns.
TDT primarily follows the school calendar, with counselors generally working Monday through Friday during school hours. School holidays, breaks, weather closures, and other periods when students are unavailable may affect scheduled hours.
Summer TDT opportunities may be available based on student participation, authorizations, staffing, and program needs. Summer schedules and assignments may differ from the regular school year.
Grow With Tree of Life

We provide TDT-specific orientation and training, ongoing supervision and case consultation, professional development, and opportunities to strengthen clinical, documentation, family engagement, and care coordination skills. Additional growth opportunities may be available based on qualifications, performance, experience, and program needs.
Employment: Full-Time or Part-Time, W-2
Location: Loudoun County Public Schools
Schedule: Monday through Friday, primarily during school hours
Work Setting: In person
