Job description

Public Transit Bus Operator

This is a responsible, non-supervisory position responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a public transit bus for the Alamo Regional Transit (ART); Checking bus operating systems to ensure operating safety; Maintains a good rapport with the passengers served; Examines bus to ensure its proper mechanical operation, including review of all safety features; Performs pre & post trip inspections; Maintains clean bus at all times; Drives bus per scheduled driver manifests; Reports any dangerous conditions that could jeopardize the safety of the passenger or other members of the public; Reports problems encountered on the route, equipment failure reports, and changing road condition reports; Collects bus fares and answers passengers' questions in a professional and congenial manner; Assists in loading, securing, and unloading wheelchairs and passengers based on the requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990; Maintains contact with dispatch and reports current position and conditions affecting the operation of the route as required; Fuels vehicles at end of shift; Ability to operate a Mobile Data Computer; Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Desired Degree/Job Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; Minimum one (1) year of experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.

Minimum Physical Requirements: Bending and stooping; Climbing; Heavy lifting; Kneeling; Reaching above shoulder; Repetitive motion; Sitting; Standing; Walking; Pushing/pulling; Driving; Mobility is essential; Visual and hearing Requirements are essential to the operation of the vehicle.

Other Qualifications: Requires a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical fitness exam; Must be able to pass drug and alcohol screening.

Required Certifications: Texas Driver's License โ€“ CDL with passenger endorsement. DLTX Texas Drivers' License Non-CDL

This position is a Pay Grade 9 with a starting hourly rate of $19.98. This is a non-exempt position. Open until Filled. Only electronic online applications will be accepted.
