How much do dui counseling jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 2, 2026, the average hourly pay for dui counseling in the United States is $23.47, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.47 and $26.20 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is CADC certification worth it?

For Dui Counseling professionals, CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) certification can enhance credibility and job prospects by demonstrating specialized knowledge in addiction treatment. It often requires completing specific education, supervised experience, and passing an exam, which can lead to higher earning potential and career advancement. However, the value depends on the employer and state licensing requirements.

What is the difference between Dui Counseling vs Substance Abuse Counselor?

AspectDui CounselingSubstance Abuse Counselor
CredentialsOften requires state-specific Dui counselor certification, sometimes a licenseRequires state licensure or certification, such as CADC or LCADC
Work EnvironmentPrimarily courts, probation offices, or specialized Dui programsRehab centers, outpatient clinics, hospitals, or community agencies
Industry UsageFocused on Dui offenders, legal cases, and mandated treatmentBroader substance abuse treatment, including alcohol and drug addiction

While both roles involve counseling individuals with substance-related issues, Dui Counseling specifically addresses clients with Dui offenses, often within legal or court settings. Substance Abuse Counselors have a broader scope, working with diverse addiction cases across various treatment environments.

What is the highest paid addiction counselor?

The highest paid addiction counselors are often those with advanced certifications, extensive experience, and specialized skills, earning salaries that can exceed $70,000 annually. In some cases, senior or clinical director roles in private practices or healthcare organizations can offer higher compensation. Salary varies based on location, employer, and level of expertise.

What jobs can you no longer get with a DUI?

DUI convictions can disqualify individuals from jobs that require driving, such as commercial truck driving, delivery services, or transportation roles. Many employers in safety-sensitive industries also conduct background checks and may exclude applicants with DUI records, especially for positions involving public safety, operating heavy machinery, or working with vulnerable populations.

What field of counseling makes the most money?

In counseling, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists tend to earn the highest salaries, often due to advanced degrees and licensure requirements. Substance abuse counselors, including those specializing in DUI counseling, generally have lower earning potential compared to these roles, but salaries can vary based on experience, location, and setting.

Job description

About the Company

Recover Medical Group is a startup working to make mental health and addiction treatment more effective, accessible, and affordable. We partner with governments to improve outcomes for individuals who need treatment, ensuring that low-income Californians have access to best-in-class care.

Our programs provide outpatient behavioral health services-including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), case management, and education services-for individuals with mental health and substance use challenges. We use a harm-reduction approach and focus on serving marginalized and underserved communities.

The Opportunity

As a DUI Counselor, you will provide education, counseling, and support services to individuals participating in court-mandated or DMV-referred Driving Under the Influence (DUI) programs. You will facilitate group and individual counseling sessions, maintain compliance with California Code of Regulations Title 9, and help clients meet the legal and behavioral health requirements necessary for program completion.

You'll play a key role in fostering accountability and recovery, helping participants understand the impact of substance use on driving safety and supporting behavior change through evidence-based interventions. You'll also collaborate with program leadership and state/county partners to ensure documentation, reporting, and client progress tracking meet all regulatory requirements.

This role is full-time and reports to the Program Manager. The position may include evening or weekend hours to accommodate class schedules.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate DUI education and counseling groups using approved curricula that address substance use, driving risks, and relapse prevention.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions and client check-ins in accordance with Title 9 requirements and program phase timelines.
  • Complete all intake, orientation, and exit interviews, ensuring participants understand program rules and expectations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) and other tracking systems.
  • Monitor participant attendance, progress, and compliance with DMV and court orders.
  • Prepare and submit all required progress reports, completion certificates, and re-enrollment documents.
  • Uphold ethical and professional standards consistent with DHCS, DMC-ODS, and agency policy.

Requirements

Need to Have:

  • Certified or registered as a CADC-I, CADC-II, or equivalent AOD counselor credential recognized by DHCS.
  • Knowledge of Title 9 DUI Program regulations and documentation requirements.
  • At least 1 year of experience providing substance use counseling services, preferably in a DUI or outpatient setting.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with court-referred populations or community corrections programs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • People with lived experience or justice involvement are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental, Vision)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
  • Training & Development Opportunities

Salary Range: $26.00 - $36.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
