What are DTC brands?

DTC brands, or Direct-to-Consumer brands, are companies that sell their products directly to customers without relying on third-party retailers, wholesalers, or other intermediaries. By cutting out the middleman, DTC brands have greater control over their branding, customer experience, and pricing. These brands often leverage e-commerce platforms and digital marketing to reach their audience, allowing them to build strong relationships with consumers and quickly adapt to market trends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a DTC Brands role, you need a solid understanding of digital marketing, e-commerce operations, and data analytics, often backed by experience in brand management or online retail. Familiarity with tools like Shopify, Google Analytics, CRM platforms, and social media advertising is typically required. Creativity, agility, and strong communication are essential soft skills to effectively engage consumers and adapt to market trends. These abilities are important for driving brand growth, optimizing customer experiences, and staying competitive in the rapidly evolving DTC landscape.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working at direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working at DTC brands often face challenges such as rapidly changing consumer preferences, high competition in the digital marketplace, and the need to constantly innovate marketing strategies. Balancing customer acquisition costs with profitability is another common hurdle. To address these challenges, DTC teams frequently use data analytics to better understand their audience, implement agile marketing tactics, and foster close collaboration between marketing, product, and customer service teams. Staying adaptable and maintaining a customer-centric approach are key to overcoming these obstacles and driving brand growth.

Creative Strategist for DTC Brands

Job description

About Us
We operate a portfolio of performance-led DTC brands across the US and Southeast Asian markets. Our brands are in the 7-8 figure range, and our growth is built entirely on creative research, testing, iteration, and the discipline to do all three at volume.
We run a structured, data-driven creative system. Testing velocity and iteration discipline are what determine how fast we grow. If you want to work somewhere that treats creative strategy as a real performance function, not a vibes-based exercise, this is it.
As a US Creative Strategist, you'll be dedicated to our US market brands, developing and testing concepts for American audiences with the specific buyer psychology, market awareness stages, and offer positioning that move cold traffic in that market.
Compensation
This role offers a competitive base salary plus performance-based commissions tied directly to winning concepts that validate and scale. You earn more when your creative drives results - it's that simple.
What You'll Be Doing
Research & Concept Development
• Developing 15-20 net-new concepts per week across video and image formats. Typically, video concepts make up 70-80% of your weekly output, with image concepts making up the balance; this ratio shifts based on what's scaling and where the priorities are
• Conducting deep research into high-impact angles, unique mechanisms, and market awareness stages to develop breakthrough concepts for US audiences
• Studying competitive intelligence (ad spying), consumer psychology, mass desire, and internal winners to identify untapped opportunities specific to the US market
• Building concepts that are rooted in how American buyers think, what they respond to, and what's already saturated in the market
Scriptwriting & Creative Execution
• Writing compelling, high-converting direct-response scripts designed to hook cold US audiences and drive them to purchase (and potentially work in tandem with a dedicated copywriter)
• Producing clear, detailed briefs for editors and designers - tight enough that the execution team can move fast without ambiguity
• Owning the creative pipeline for your assigned brands: research → ideation → scripting → post-launch performance analysis and iteration
• Writing across formats: UGC-style scripts, direct-address video ads, static ad copy, and image concept briefs with the same conversion logic applied to each
Collaboration & Iteration
• Working closely with the Lead Strategist at the strategic level and with editors and designers at the execution level
• Leveraging proven copy structures, frameworks, and past winners to accelerate testing velocity
• Feeding insights back to the wider team to continuously improve our creative playbook
Performance Analysis & Scaling
• Analyzing winners and losers weekly - documenting what worked, why it worked, and what to test next
• Rapidly iterating winning concepts into multiple variations to validate and scale
Requirements
Must-Haves
• Proven direct-response experience > you've written scripts, hooks, or ad concepts that have run on Meta or TikTok (paid socials)
• Strong copywriting skills across video and static formats > your writing pulls people in and keeps them moving toward a purchase
• Deep understanding of consumer psychology, awareness stages, and what makes cold traffic convert in the target market
• Obsessive researcher > you go beyond surface-level competitive intel and find angles other people miss
• High output capacity, averaging 15-20 concepts a week, is the expectation, not the ceiling, and you can sustain it without the quality slipping
Instant No's
• You don't have real experience in ad creative strategy or direct-response copywriting
• You want to spend weeks polishing one campaign > this role requires speed, iteration, and high-quality output simultaneously
• You struggle with volume, operational workflows, or fast feedback cycles
• You're uncomfortable with the reality that most ads fail before one wins > failure is data, not a problem
• You're balancing multiple jobs or clients > this requires full-time, dedicated ownership
What Success Looks Like
• Consistently producing 15-20 net-new concepts per week across video and image formats
• Achieving a 10%+ creative hit rate -concepts that validate, scale, and drive real spend
• Operating as a reliable creative partner to the editors, designers, and lead strategists around you
Benefits
• Hands-on experience working on 7-8 figure brands with real paid media budgets behind them
• Performance-based upside - base + commissions tied directly to winners and scaling impact
• High ownership - your concepts directly influence spend, revenue, and growth
• Rapid learning environment with proven frameworks, strong feedback loops, and high iteration cadence
• Clear growth path to Lead Strategist or larger brand scope as you prove your output
