Job description

Role: Middleware Engineer
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Duration: Long Term
( Only Consulting working with NYC DSS/HRA)
Responsibilities:
  • Develop System Design Specifications
  • Prepare design documentation for solutions that meet system and security requirements, including evaluation of alternative approaches.
  • Develop detailed specifications covering integrations, databases, network architecture, security, and software configurations.
  • Create structured diagrams to represent database designs, communication systems, and network paths.
  • Develop, compile, maintain, and document configurations for databases, servers, monitoring systems, packaged applications, utilities, and ecosystem components.
  • Implement enhancements to existing integrations to accommodate security updates or mapping changes.
  • Develop System Documentation
  • Develop operational and installation procedures for communication systems, hardware, network, security, storage and software.
  • Develop guidelines and upgrade techniques of new operational procedures for the support of databases, hardware systems, operating systems software, network systems software, security and client server systems.
  • Develop detailed systems operations designs and architecture diagrams.
  • Prepare the details for all new integrations and the corresponding data transmissions between the ecosystems.
  • Perform System Design/Development
  • Create, test, and maintain APIs and backend database components.
  • Build integrations to enable data exchange between agency systems and external platforms, as well as across internal ecosystem applications.
  • Develop and enhance middleware integrations to support new and evolving business requirements.
  • Provide general programming support and assistance to other technical staff and related projects as needed.
  • Perform daily health checks and proactive monitoring of middleware integrations to ensure uninterrupted application performance.
  • Monitor scheduled jobs and system traffic to confirm successful processing of all requests.
  • Manage environment credentials and configurations to maintain secure access across development, QA, and production environments.
  • Investigate and resolve integration issues by rerunning processes or coordinating with vendors and partner teams to process pending requests.
  • Review database logs for exceptions and take proactive measures to resolve integration issues, preventing service disruptions during business hours.
  • Check queues and reprocess transactions as needed to ensure timely and reliable data delivery across integrated systems.
  • Monitor server health and system activity to ensure agency applications operate smoothly, enabling timely case transmission and processing.
  • Build a new training environment to support staff onboarding and training activities.
  • Perform Testing/Evaluation
  • Conduct unit testing newly developed and modified integrations to verify individual components function as designed.
  • Support QA test cycles by executing integration test scenarios and ensuring all functional requirements are met prior to production deployment, and assisting with performance testing as needed.
  • Test APIs and integrations across different data formats used by integrated system modules.
  • Provide support for middleware components, including message flows, queues, and web services used for data exchange.
  • Develop guaranteed delivery message flows to ensure no loss of client data after submission.
  • Build and automate log monitoring processes, including notifications and alerts for failures or exceptions.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor information technology quality assurance standards.

Required Skills:
A minimum of 4 years of experience with the following skill sets:
  • Application Development & Middleware Expertise - Experience in application software development using middleware platforms and integration tools, along with strong skills in data analysis, data access, data structures, data manipulation, databases, design, programming, testing, and implementation
  • Documentation & Software Conversion - Preparing technical and user documentation, as well as performing software conversions.
  • Multi-Platform Environment Exposure - Exposure to diverse environments including mainframe, mid-range systems, personal computers, and laptops
  • Database Expertise - Working with Relational databases including but not limited to Oracle and SQL Server
  • IBM Integration Bus & Web Services - Hands-on experience in enterprise middleware platform flow development and administration, along with web service development and consumption
  • SOA & Integration Technologies - Strong knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) trends and standards, including XML, JSON, REST APIs, SOAP APIs, XML schemas, and WSDL usage
