Job description

Director of Staff Development (DSD) - LVN
Orchard Post Acute
Pay Range: $34.00-$35.00+ per hour, based on experience

Orchard Post Acute is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and compassionate Director of Staff Development (DSD) to join our leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an LVN who is passionate about education, employee development, clinical excellence, and creating a culture where team members can grow and succeed.
The DSD plans and oversees facility orientation, clinical skills training, in-service education, and nursing assistant certification training when applicable. Working closely with the Director of Nursing and Administrator, the DSD helps ensure our employees are confident, competent, and prepared to provide the highest level of resident-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate facility orientation, employee training, and continuing education programs.
  • Plan and conduct meaningful in-service education for nursing personnel and other facility employees.
  • Prepare and maintain annual training schedules and monthly in-service calendars.
  • Identify educational needs using survey results, employee evaluations, facility rounds, clinical observations, and leadership recommendations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate training, competency, attendance, and continuing education records.
  • Coordinate nursing assistant certification training programs when applicable.
  • Observe resident care and provide coaching to ensure employees follow facility policies, clinical standards, and best practices.
  • Assess employee competency and provide training on new procedures, equipment, regulations, and clinical skills.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retaining qualified employees.
  • Coordinate and process employment-related documentation.
  • Assist with payroll and employee benefit programs as assigned.
  • Coordinate infection prevention surveillance activities.
  • Plan, conduct, and document required fire, internal disaster, and external mass-casualty drills.
  • Assist with employee supervision, performance improvement, and disciplinary processes.
  • Complete forms and reports required by the Department of Health and other regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
  • Provide direct resident care when needed.
  • Build positive, cooperative relationships with residents, families, employees, and facility leadership.
  • Maintain employee and resident confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current California RN or LVN license in good standing required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • One year of direct resident-care experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
  • One year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing education programs preferred.
  • Two or more years of nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Skilled nursing or long-term care experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of PointClickCare preferred.
  • Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education.
  • Strong presentation, coaching, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate employees and develop positive, cooperative working relationships.
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
