A drywall texture job involves applying various finishes to drywall surfaces to create decorative or functional textures, such as knockdown, popcorn, or smooth finishes. The work requires skills in taping, sanding, and using texture tools or spray equipment, often performed in new construction or renovation projects. Workers typically need knowledge of safety procedures and may require certifications or experience with specific texture techniques.

How much do drywallers make per job?

Drywallers typically earn between $200 and $800 per job, depending on the size and complexity of the project, as well as their experience and local market rates. Larger or more detailed jobs, such as textured finishes, can command higher prices. Many drywallers charge by the square foot or by the hour, with rates ranging from $20 to $50 per hour.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Drywall Texture Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Drywall Texture Specialist, you need expertise in drywall installation, taping, mudding, and various texturing techniques, often gained through on-the-job experience or vocational training. Familiarity with tools such as trowels, sprayers, sanders, and knowledge of safety procedures and materials is essential. Attention to detail, reliability, and effective communication are important soft skills for delivering high-quality finishes and collaborating with clients or team members. These skills and qualities ensure durable, aesthetically pleasing results and client satisfaction in construction and renovation projects.

How much should I charge to texture drywall?

Drywall texture professionals typically charge between $1 to $3 per square foot, depending on the complexity of the texture, surface area, and local market rates. Additional costs may include preparation, repairs, or special finishes, and experience with tools like spray guns can influence pricing. It's common to provide a per-job estimate based on these factors.

What is drywall texture?

Drywall texture refers to the decorative patterns or finishes applied to the surface of drywall after it has been installed and taped. The texture can be applied using a variety of techniques and tools, such as brushes, rollers, or spray guns, to create different looks like knockdown, orange peel, or popcorn. These textures help hide imperfections, add visual interest, and can improve a room’s acoustics. The choice of texture often depends on personal preference and the style of the space.

Where do drywallers make the most money?

Drywallers tend to earn higher wages in regions with a high cost of living and strong construction industries, such as major metropolitan areas or states with active building markets. Experience, specialization in finishing techniques, and union membership can also increase earning potential for drywall installation and finishing professionals.
