Job description

Under direction of the Dryer Manager/Supervisor or leader, responsible for the installation, modification and preventive/corrective maintenance of Dryer facility equipment and machinery. Capable, with minimum supervision, of responding to and diagnosing equipment & machinery malfunctions or breakdowns, the timing and adjustment of processing and production equipment & machinery, initiating and coordinating required adjustment and/or repairs and preparation of verbal or written reports as requested.  Under limited supervision, must be proficient at fabricating sheet metal parts using common sheet metal trade equipment and machinery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

              The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other related duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Assist manager with supervision of seasonal team members throughout the year during harvest.
  2. Inspire and guide teams to reach their highest potential through continuous feedback, support and skill development.
  3. Embrace a culture of continuous learning by staying current with industry trends and seeking out new ideas, technologies and best practices.
  4. Address misunderstandings thoughtfully to maintain productive and respectful relationships.
  5. Working from engineering drawings and/or verbal instructions, installs, relocates, or modifies Dryer facility equipment and machinery.
  6. Working from engineering drawings, sketches and/or verbal instructions, performs sheet metal lay out, measure and mark sheet metal according to drawings and templates.
  7. Operate metal working machines such as shears, power press, brakes, punches, drill presses, milling machines, lathes and grinders to cut, bend, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal.
  8. Operate oxy-acetylene cutting equipment, MIG, ARC and plasma welding to cut and fabricate parts in support of Dryer operations.
  9. Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces.
  10. Fit and join sheet metal parts using rivets, welding, soldering and similar equipment to fabricate parts to support Dryer operations.
  11. Inspect part quality and installation to ensure conformance, safety, and specification.
  12. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and reports on Dryer facility equipment malfunctions and breakdowns.
  13. Performs initial and routine set-ups, adjustments and repairs to maintain Dryer equipment and machinery in proper operation.
  14. Operates Dryer equipment and machinery as assigned to meet Dryer requirements.
  15. Performs, and monitors results of, equipment preventive maintenance.
  16. Performs major overhauls of Dryer equipment and machinery with minimum supervision.
  17. Assists in training and instructing designated personnel in equipment and machinery installation, modification, adjustment or overhaul operations.
  18. Keeps work areas, shop, equipment, and tools clean and orderly using common cleaning equipment.
  19. Assists Dryer Manager/Supervisor and Lead with the identification of required spare parts to ensure a proper working inventory is maintained.
  20. Unloads, relocates, or loads Dryer materials or equipment.
  21. Performs carpentry or concrete work in support of building maintenance or modification.
  22. Performs forklift operations.
  23. Completes records as necessary, including daily checklist prior to operating forklift.
  24. Maintains fuel, oil and water in forklift.
  25. Responsible for ensuring safe working conditions and safe work practices in assigned area.
  26. Performs other duties relating to the overall effort as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge/Skills: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must pass forklift certification.
  • Must complete appropriate orientation and training progr

Ability to: 

  • Must be able to work overtime if required specifically 7 days a week during harvest.
  • Travel to other Sunsweet Facilities for training, and/or emergency support.

Education and Experience: 

  • Mechanical training

Physical/Safety Requirements: 

  • Tolerate extended periods of sitting at desk.
  • Ambient noise is louder than a traditional office setting.
  • Must be able to lift 70 pounds and maneuver 75-pound fuel tank.
