Job Title: House Manager & Family Assistant (with Meal Prep & Childcare Support)
Location: Leesburg, VA 20176
Employment Type: Full-time (30-35 hours/week)
Proposed Start Date: ASAP
Compensation: $30-35/hour based on experience.
Requirements:
  • Maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must pass a background check

Proposed Schedule:

About Our Family:
We are a lively and close-knit family balancing careers, four wonderful kids (ages 7, 8, 18, and 19, with the older two in college), and two lovable pets-our dog and cat. Our days are filled with activity, fun, and the occasional chaos, as we embrace our busy lifestyle and all that comes with it. We're looking for a warm, dependable House Manager & Family Assistant to help us keep everything running smoothly. From organizing the home and handling meal prep to managing our ever-changing schedules and supporting the kids and pets, your role will be key to creating a calm, organized space for our family. We also love to travel, both near and far, and we'd love for you to join us on our adventures and stay with the kids and pets when we're away.

You are detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple responsibilities, and maintain organization across a variety of tasks. You'll be an extension of our family, someone who can "read the room" and take initiative to ensure the house runs smoothly, as if it were your own. You're also a natural mentor. Our kids have their own set of responsibilities around the house, and you enjoy encouraging their independence-helping them stay accountable, care for their belongings, and take pride in contributing to the household. You're comfortable taking on a leadership role at home, with a warm, patient approach to both kids and adults.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Household Management & Organization
    • Maintain organization systems for closets, storage, pantry, and kids' items
    • Reset and tidy rooms daily, prep house for cleaning service, and enforce kids' responsibility for their own rooms
    • Oversee family calendar and schedules, ensure all appointments, school activities, and events are managed
    • Conduct seasonal swaps (clothing, décor, bedding)
    • Prepare for family travel (packing, ensuring clothing readiness for kids, equipment readiness before ski trips)
    • Coordinate donation drop-offs and pick-ups
    • Supervise or coordinate service providers (cleaners, landscapers, etc.)
    • Maintain indoor plants, including weekly watering
    • Take garbage and recycling bins out for collection twice per week
  • Meal Planning & Preparation
    • Prepare healthy meals for kids and adults (5 nights/week for kids, 3 nights/week for parents)
    • Help coordinate the kids' meals to align with the family menu plan
    • Batch prep and have lunch items available for kids to pack their own school lunches
    • Shop for groceries and meal-related items, following dietary preferences (Mediterranean diet, healthy fats, protein-forward meals)
    • Clean the kitchen after meal prep and manage overall kitchen tidiness
  • Laundry & Linen Care
    • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (clothing, bedding, towels)
    • Manage linens: clean/fold bedding, refresh towels, and restock essentials
    • Coordinate dry cleaning as needed
    • Launder sofa cushion covers as needed
    • Maintain a tidy and well-stocked laundry area
  • Inventory Management & Errands
    • Track and restock household supplies, pantry, fridge, and toiletries
    • Create and manage grocery and household supply lists

    • Coordinate vet and grooming appointments
  • Vehicle Management

    • Ensure vehicles are fueled, cleaned, and organized
    • Coordinate with service for quarterly deep cleaning
  • Vendor and Seasonal Property Oversight

    • Supervise and coordinate service providers (cleaners, contractors, landscapers, etc.)
    • Oversee outdoor spaces and seasonal maintenance, including basic pool and hot tub monitoring, water testing and chemical balancing, and assisting with seasonal setup and storage of outdoor furniture and cushions
