What is Drupal Support?

Drupal Support refers to the assistance provided to users, organizations, or developers working with the Drupal content management system (CMS). This support can include troubleshooting technical issues, performing site updates, maintaining security patches, and providing guidance on best practices for building and managing Drupal websites. Drupal Support professionals help ensure that websites built on Drupal remain secure, up-to-date, and function smoothly. They may also assist with module installation, theme customization, and performance optimization. Effective Drupal Support is crucial for maximizing the reliability and success of Drupal-powered websites.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Drupal Support specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Drupal Support specialist, you need a solid understanding of Drupal CMS, website troubleshooting, and web development fundamentals, often supported by experience in PHP, HTML, and CSS. Familiarity with Drupal modules, site configuration, and ticketing systems like Jira or Zendesk is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and patience are essential soft skills for effectively assisting users and collaborating with technical teams. These skills ensure efficient issue resolution, high-quality user support, and the smooth operation of Drupal-powered websites.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Drupal Support roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Drupal Support often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex module conflicts, managing security updates, and supporting users with varying levels of technical knowledge. Staying up-to-date with the latest Drupal releases and best practices can help address these issues effectively. Collaborating closely with developers, content editors, and site administrators is essential to resolve issues efficiently and ensure smooth website operations. Leveraging community resources and documentation can also be invaluable for overcoming technical hurdles and providing high-quality support.

Job description

Do you want to help build some of the largest and most consequential enterprise and customer technology systems in the world? Join Apple's Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) organization. IS&T is the engine behind everything Apple does for customers and for the people who build for them. It's Apple's central nervous system. Supporting 2.5 billion active Apple devices, processing billions of secure transactions, and keeping the technology that defines modern life running flawlessly, IS&T makes the impossible feel effortless. Do you love building solutions to handle global complexity and immense scale? Imagine what you could do here.
Employee Experience and Productivity (EEP) is part of IS&T and delivers some of the most widely used communication and productivity technology and services across Apple - from tools that enable collaboration to the support teams that keep Apple's workforce running. EEP also leads user experience design and research, and manages the systems behind Apple's original content studios. Within this team is Employee Engagement & Engineering, a small, global team that quickly delivers with long-term vision, building durable, reliable systems meant to last. Our focus is on crafting high-quality, user-centered experiences - delivering AI and system interoperability to make every interaction intuitive, seamless, and genuinely useful for the people who rely on our tools.
Description
We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to build tools that support Apple's people around the world. Using web and native technologies - HTML5, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, Swift, Symfony, and Drupal - we create applications that let Apple's employees focus on their roles and feel supported in their daily work.
This role is back-end weighted: you'll spend most of your time designing and shipping secure, scalable Drupal and Symfony applications. You'll also build the user-friendly, accessible front-end interfaces that put those systems in people's hands. This is a senior lead role for someone who can run projects autonomously - scoping work with business partners, managing priorities and customer feedback, and driving delivery end to end - without day-to-day direction. You'll bring strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset to a team that owns its work end to end.
Minimum Qualifications
Deep, hands-on experience with Symfony and Drupal, including complex custom module development, object-oriented PHP, design patterns, and dependency management with Composer
Proven ability to own production applications end to end - from concept and architecture through deployment and day-to-day operations - and to drive projects autonomously with business partners
Experience applying secure coding practices across the stack, including input validation and access control
Experience designing and consuming RESTful web services and APIs (e.g., JSON:API, REST)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
Developing custom Drush commands and background/queue processes, with a focus on performance tuning
Strong SQL skills, including optimizing and debugging queries to improve performance
Writing automated tests (e.g., PHPUnit, Kernel/functional tests)
Integrating applications and authentication using OAuth, SAML, and single sign-on
Integrating AI tools into the application development lifecycle
Search integration (e.g., Apache Solr, Elasticsearch)
NoSQL data stores (e.g., Redis)
Building and maintaining Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes across a variety of data sources
Designing systems that scale across multiple locations and languages and handle peak load for a global user base
Load testing and advanced troubleshooting of production applications
CI/CD pipelines, container-based systems for deployment and local development, and managing configuration/deployments across multi-environment architectures
Distributed version control with Git
Building user-friendly, accessible front-end interfaces (Twig, JavaScript, CSS) that meet accessibility standards
React or Swift application development
Leading engineering projects and driving delivery, including Agile facilitation, code review, and mentoring peers
