The Lab Technician conducts specified testing with clients and provides support to patients, physicians and administrative staff as required. 
Responsibilities
 

  • Collecting laboratory specimens and/or packaging samples for pick up by lab courier
  • Completion of blood draws
  • Completion of urine dipsticks
  • Preparing FIT tests for pick up
  • Preparing Pap smears for pick up
  • Completion of DOT & Non-DOT drug testing, as well as all related paperwork
  • Conducting vision, hearing and spirometry testing
  • Coordinating external referrals and communicating with other physicians' offices
  • Supporting physicians as required
  • Ensuring examination rooms and change rooms are tidy and fully stocked with medical supplies and toiletries
  • Preparing client files ahead of appointments
  • Checking clients in and out of clinic, and collecting payments
  • Supporting the front desk in between lab draws to provide break coverage
  • Ordering medical supplies for the clinic
  • Other administrative duties, as required 


 

Qualifications

Required Knowledge
 

  • Post-secondary diploma in medical lab technologies 
  • Minimum of one year previous and relevant experience preferred
  • Experience and certified with vaccine handling and administration as per Ontario Health guidelines
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision while delivering the highest level of patient care
  • Professionalism, respect for confidentiality and commitment to a superior level of customer satisfaction 
  • Experience and interest in preventative health and education with desire for growth 
  • Self-starter who is efficient and demonstrates a high level of attention to detail, accountability and sound judgment 
  • Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Works well under pressure and demonstrates a sense of urgency in completing time sensitive tasks 
  • Demonstrates effective organizational, multitasking and problem solving abilities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
